Hoes heading to Bowie

Here’s a refreshing development in a season – organization-wide – that’s been devoid of flowers and rainbows.

L.J. Hoes, the Bowie native and St. John’s (D.C.) product whom the Orioles selected in the third round in 2008, has been promoted to Double-A Bowie for a little homecoming

Hoes, 20, hit .289 with a .391 on-base percentage for High-A Frederick. He has hit .310 with a .390 OBP this month. Hoes also had a rehab stint at Short-A Aberdeen this season, batting .464 in eight games.

The second baseman dropped from 14th to 21st in 2010’s Baseball America rankings of Orioles’ prospects, but his star seems to be rising again this season. He still has plenty of work to do, but scouts love his attitude and work ethic.

The move is expected to be temporary at this time, but plans can always change if Hoes performs well in his few games with the Baysox.

Hoes has done pretty well. What about Mahoney? He has only been at Bowie for a short time, but he is on a tear. If the O's trade Wiggington, what are the chances he is brought up to play 1B? Scott is a DH and should not move to 1B. No one in Norfolk has done the job either. So, why not?

Great. A 3rd round "prospect" spends 2 years in A-ball and finally gets promoted for batting .289 in A-ball.

Strike up the band!

It's idiot Oriole fans like the above comment that kills me. If you don't like the O's go root for the Nationals.
LJ Hoes will be playing in Baltimore in a couple years and this guy will have to eat his words.

Jim from Fenwick: Very well said. I'm personally tired beyond words of all the posters on these Sun sports blogs who live only to b*tch and moan, complain, make 7th grader sarcastic comments ad nauseum, if we signed the second coming of Babe Ruth they'd say, "Guy's too fat to play ball." Give it a rest. Like Jim from Fenwick said, you hate the O's so much, go root for the Nationals or anybody else for that matter. If you have something constructive to add to the conversation, please do so, but personally, and I know I speak for many, we're all sick of the(bleep) stream that clogs up these blogs. Hope Hoes excels and GO O's!

Congrats LJ! Having watched him down here in Delmarva, I hope he continues his success at Bowie.

I thought this headline meant something totally different and was about to mapquest directions to drive to Bowie immediately.

Any word on Xavier Avery? Seems to have had a decent year at Frederick as well.

the scouts who "love his attitude" obviously dont watch him on defense or follow him on twitter...

@Chris T. - Uh, If you know anything about minors, there are two levels of A ball and he's only spent one full season in low A Delmarva and this season in High A Frederick and was one of the youngest players each year. Also Hoes may be the youngest play in AA when he gets there as he's only 20, which is younger than most drafted college players. If he and Xavier Avery who was also drafted same year both go to AA next year like expected, they're only 21 years old in Double A Bowie.

Dan,

Could Joe Mahoney really be the future 1st baseman for Orioles. He does not get a lot of hype but, lately his name is popping up on a lot of Oriole Fan Forums (Orioles Hangout, Camden Chat) What's instore for this kid and any new news about him?

I just went and saw 7 minor league baseball games and 2 of them included the frederick keys and lj hoes and xavier avery both played exceptional and deserve to have a stint at AA

Hopefully Hoes can improve on his batting average. If he can train himself to become a .325 hitter in the minors, he could be the heir to Roberts. I don't know the story on his speed though.
