Dickerson named interim manager at Norfolk

With Norfolk Tides manager Gary Allenson heading to Baltimore to become the Orioles interim third-base coach, the Triple-A team needed a replacement.

Enter Bobby Dickerson, who was named the interim manager in Norfolk today.

Dickerson, 44, was the Orioles minor league infield and Latin America field coordinator this season. He is 525-462 in eight seasons as a manager in the minor leagues.

Most recently, Dickerson managed the Triple-A Iowa Cubs to a 72-72 record in 2009.

Dickerson served as the Chicago Cubs minor league infield and bunting coordinator from 2006-08, and he managed the Double-A West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx from 2002-05, where he twice led the club to the postseason. He also served as a minor league coach and manager in the Orioles' minor league system from 1993-97.

Allenson was 228-254 in three-plus seasons as Norfolk’s manager.

Another ex MacPhail guy. Geez what a shock.

good lord, another x- cub player/employee.... can we start raiding the good organizations like Boston???

Chicago Cubs fans know all too well the myth of Andy MacFail.

The issue remains can anyone get O's hitters to focus. This is a terrible lineup, with no one to protect anyone else. Maybe in a couple of weeks BRob will be back. Weiters hasn't shown he's ready to hit fourth in the line up and there is no one who can even make consistent contact. Even the guys with a decent average on paper don't deliver when it counts. It's a conundrum.

As bad as this team hits, they're not the worst hitting team in the league. Only the worst at scoring runs. Will saying good bye to Dave change that?

He also served as a minor league coach and manager in the Orioles' minor league system from 1993-97.

Get off your damn soap box.

What's next we sign Mark Prior???

About the bloggers
A Baltimore native, Dan Connolly has been covering sports for 14 years, and baseball and the Orioles for 10 seasons, including the past six with The Sun. His first year covering baseball on a daily basis was Cal Ripken Jr.'s final season as a player. It's believed that is just a coincidence.

Steve Gould is an assistant sports editor for The Sun, overseeing Orioles coverage. The Columbia native joined The Sun as a sports copy editor in 2006 after graduating from the University of Maryland.

Peter Schmuck has been covering baseball for a lot longer than Steve Gould has been on this earth. He is now a general sports columnist, but has been a beat writer covering three major league teams (the Dodgers, Angels and Orioles) and also spent a decade as the Sun's national baseball writer. If you want more of his insight on the Orioles and other sports issues, check out his personal blog -- The Schmuck Stops Here.
