Reimold reacts to demotion

Demoted Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold certainly hasn't lost his sense of humor on one of the most disappointing days of his professional career.

Asked what he feels he needs to work on at Triple-A in order to get back to Baltimore, Reimold said, "Hitting the ball, getting on base, fielding, throwing."

Reimold, who was hitting .205 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 29 games, said that he was surprised that he was sent to Triple-A Norfolk today to make room for outfielder Corey Patterson, but he certainly understands where the Orioles are coming from.

"I haven’t been playing well, so it’s understood. I have to go down and start hitting. It’s just been frustrating," Reimold said in a phone interview with The Sun after leaving the ballpark. "I haven’t been playing the way I want to play, the way I know that I can play. It has been a frustrating start to the year. It’s still early. There’s still a lot of time to turn it around."

Reimold said his struggles were a result of a combination of factors, most related to his putting far too much pressure on himself to produce.

"It all kind of snowballed," Reimold said. "I didn’t get off to a hot start, and then you start pressing and you try too hard to not make mistakes. And that's when you do make mistakes. That’s kind of what happened to me. I’m just going to go down there and get a fresh start, work on some things and hopefully get back up here."

Reimold said that he was not used to not playing every day, but he refused to blame that for his problems.

"I just need to relax and go out there and get my confidence up and start playing like I should be," he said. "I know I can hit, but when you’re hitting .200, you need to correct some things.
If I was playing better, I wouldn’t be sent down. This is on me."

Very mature comments by a young player. I wish Reimold the best and hope he gets back to Baltimore with his confidence (and his swing) restored. Now it is time for the GM and management to show the same kind of honesty and maturity, and acknowledge that it will have to buy some bats with serious pop in order to protect the younger hitters in the line-up. Otherwise look forward to a season-long, team-wide slump!

Good for you Nolan, thats exactly what i wanted to hear from you! go down get your game straight, come back up and kick some a**.... wondering if you are fully healed (no pun intended) FIRE TREMBLY NOW!

Reimold is a good kid, it seems. He needs to get his head back on straight. I think a month at AAA and he'll be fine. Right now, everybody, from pitchers to hitters to fielders to coaches are pressing, pressing, pressing. You can't hit a 5-run homer, or win 15 in a row in one night. Patience is the key, especially now. NO JERMAINE DYE!

good move on Reimold. he needs to get back to where he was last year. is there a quality control stat. regarding called balls and strikes within the "virtual box" amongst the teams? this would determine if certain teams (i.e. the Yanks) are getting preferential treatment. a called first strike that's a ball puts a batter in a big hole.

I think they are sending down the wrong player. Why not start changing from the top. I like Dave, but change needs to start with him. Bring in a different attitude before it gets to late.

He's right....plug Reimold in everyday & he plays better. I blame Trembley for a lot of his struggles. Trembley is loyal to chowder head retreads like Scott & Atkins & adversly affects the youngins

When does Terry Crowley get demoted?

They sent the wrong guy down. In Reimold's last 6 games he was hitting .300, despite being jerked in and out of the lineup by Trembley. He was starting to get it going. Montanez, on the other hand, is 0-18 in his last 8 games and only has 4 hits all year. Luke Scott is 5-33 in his last 10 games and 2-14 in his last 5 games. If they sent Reimold down they should have sent all 3 of them down. Now they are going to use a player, Patterson, to hit leadoff who has a career .290 OBS which is an improvement over Jones who has a .257 OBP. I guess they see that as an improvement.

Dig up Wild Bill. Bring back Earl Weaver. Rebuild Memorial Stadium. Unearth Chuck Thompson and Bailey Goss. Charge 25 cents for a hot dog. Get rid of the hat with the "O" on it. Find Jerold Hoffberger. Re-activate Jim Palmer. Excavate John Denver. Do not allow Angelos to enter Camden Yards. Then we'll be ready to REBUILD!

He's gotta get right before his multi-stage Bobble Head nights, or the O's are gonna look even more bush ( if that's possible!)

Rueters: Baltimore, MD.
The Baltimore Orioles demoted starting left fielder Nolan Reimold to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday and replaced him with veteran outfielder Corey Patterson. "We held on as long as we possibly could with him," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. "We knew 'Nolan Reimold Mini Bobblehead Night' was coming up in a few weeks and we were really trying to hold on, hoping things would pick up- which of course, they didn't."
"I was kind of surprised", Reimhold said. "I mean, they could have at least waited until after Mini Bobblehead Night", he said with a shake of his head. I'm not sure which is worse," Reimhold added, "Being sent down to Triple A or missing out on Mini Bobblehead Night."
Andy McPhail, President of Baseball Operations for the Orioles said, "It's important that everyone in this organization understands it's not about the bobblehead, it's about the team. But of course, 15,000 bobbleheads is nothing to make light of."

Better late than never. In 10 days he'll be back. Then it is Jones' turn.

Send down Atkins or Scott? We have excellent hitting instruction at the minor leagues...not a Houdini.

Well, it seems McPhail is rolling the dice here, hoping that by demoting Reimold, he will do two things at once. Give Reimold a chance to get his swing all the way back with some regular at bats in a lower pressure venue, and also send a message to the other players saying "you could be next." I guess if you want to be wildly optimistic you could interpret last nights performances by Jones and Scott as evidence that it might be working already. My optimism is too worn down for that just yet. If they keep playing good baseball over the next couple weeks, then I'll start believing again.

many need to get it all toget ther ,before its a lost season -start with trembly -he has no idea no winning attitude to help in club-house -patterson may get started and produce -berggenson came back -

Simple solution for the Bobblehead Issue. If he is playing with the Tides, give them out at Norfolk. Bring in a few hundred Chinese workers to correct the jersey and hat to match the Tides unis......

FIRE CROWLEY!!!

The unfortunate thing is Reimold is a better player than Patterson. As one astute postmeister said above, his offense has actually picked up a bit recently although his hits haven't been for extra bases or with authority.

The most puzzling part with Reimold is his defense has been off compared to last year. I heard a week or so ago his time down the first base line was no different than last year but one has to wonder if he's not playing in pain nevertheless.

As for Jones, he has no options left. He would be picked up in a snap if his name ever saw the waivers. (His opposite field single last night was a positive. Hopefully, he can build on that.)

Back to Patterson, let's hope his hot bat at AAA lasts a while with the O's so when he remembers he's Corey Patterson, Reimold can come back with authority ... and to stay.

Jeff Z's reply: Jones does have an option left, as does Luke Scott.

I love hearing positive attitudes like Reimold and hope he eventual becomes a star for us. That kind of attitude goes a long way.

When I coached fast-pitch high school softball locally, one year I cut a big freshman girl whose bat and leg speed were a little too slow. I got a call from mom the next day and she said: "My daughter's a little shy about coming to talk to you, but she wants to know what she needs to improve on to make the team next year." Three years later she was an All County all star on a team ranked #3 by the Sun. The RIGHT ATTITUDE takes you places!

This is a heavy blow for Reimold. I have great faith in that this will fire him up. He go to AAA and start killing the pitching. 3 to 4 weeks tops and he'll be back Bigger and Badder than last year!!!!!!!!!!

Great attitude. I'll bet that when he comes back up you will see him stay and go on to a decent career. He has all the tools and this shows he has the character too.

I say bring back the old Oriole Logo. The one with the Oriole bird swinging the bat. The current one is to boring. It shows no emotion, kinda like how they are playing. The old Logo showed some FIGHT!! I can't even watch the Orioles anymore. They are just that bad.I just watch the scores and check in once in awhile. Its not gonna be a good summer. :-(
