Roberts a little better

The Orioles lost again tonight, this time by a 4-2 score to the Oakland A's. They also lost another player to the disabled list as outfielder Felix Pie, who had been one of the few guys swinging a decent bat, joined Brian Roberts, Michael Gonzalez and Koji Uehara on the DL.

About the only piece of good news was the Roberts, a couple of days removed from getting his second epidural to ease the discomfort from the herniated disk in his back, had a positive appointment with back specialist Dr. Lee Riley.

"There is some improvement," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. "He will go back for a follow-up on Monday and see where he's at."

A few games ago it was pointed out that the Orioles were batting about .167 with RISP. Who knew that that was the "good old days?" In the 3 games since then, this pathetic offense has gone ZERO FOR FIFTEEN with RISP!

Can you provide us a little context for this Rosenthal imbroglio. Who benefits from slipping Ken this half-story? It must have come from Cal's people, right? Why is it happening now?

Jeff Z's reply: Still working on that but everybody involved in the story - Angelos, Andy MacPhail, Cal - have not returned multiple requests for comment since last night. Hopefully, that will change.

Roberts won't play in more then 25 games all year. Wake up everybody and stop putting spin on everything. Andy did that to all the fans in this town already. The orioles are a down right disgrace.

a lot of this you can chalk up to bad luck and injuries

but NOT the sweep by TOR at camden

these guys have to look in the mirror, to rehash and old saying, and find a way

millwood, for one, is out there gutting it out and he deserves better

There are still some good players on the 2010 free agent list. I'm sure we can get a few hitters who pitchers are afraid of. There is no one in this line-up who scares opposing pitchers. What this guy Branden in 5-1 against us career wise damn he's good

About the bloggers
A Baltimore native, Dan Connolly has been covering sports for 14 years, and baseball and the Orioles for 10 seasons, including the past six with The Sun. His first year covering baseball on a daily basis was Cal Ripken Jr.'s final season as a player. It's believed that is just a coincidence.

Steve Gould is an assistant sports editor for The Sun, overseeing Orioles coverage. The Columbia native joined The Sun as a sports copy editor in 2006 after graduating from the University of Maryland.

Peter Schmuck has been covering baseball for a lot longer than Steve Gould has been on this earth. He is now a general sports columnist, but has been a beat writer covering three major league teams (the Dodgers, Angels and Orioles) and also spent a decade as the Sun's national baseball writer. If you want more of his insight on the Orioles and other sports issues, check out his personal blog -- The Schmuck Stops Here.
