Preakness logo unveiled

The winter holidays are still in front of us but the Maryland Jockey Club is already thinking balmy, as in Preakness Day, 2009. The next Preakness is scheduled for May 16. Yesterday, five months to the day before Maryland's biggest race day, the Maryland Jockey Club unveiled its 2009 logo.

This year's version features the clean lines of a pen-and-ink sketch of a horse and jockey, the cupola of Pimlico Race Course and, of course, a black-eyed Susan flower. Here it is.

Look through the logos of previous Preakness Stakes (2002-present) here.

I love the subtle touches of the 3 copyright marks...nice stuff.

Looks nice, but I hope Frank Stonach approved, otherwise the latest poor soul nominally running the MJC will hit the dusty trail as well. Couldn't come up with the cash to keep the Pimlico stable open, but sure coughed up the dough when Fred Puddester tapped him on the shoulder for a slots campaign contribution. Still, if The Boys in Annapolis give a slots license to an Austrian-born Canadian who cannot manage his tracks, let alone a slots operation, I'll swallow my horse's bit and bridle laughing.
