NFL picks: Week 5
With the early NFL games about to start, we want to make this week's selections. Last week, was a break-even 2-2 to give us a season mark of 9-5. We scored with Washington as the upset winner over Dallas and the over in the Ravens-Steelers game and stumbled along with Philadelphia and Green Bay.
Tennessee at Baltimore (+2 1/2, O/U 33 1/2). Obviously, this is billed as another defensive battle as was Baltimore-Pittsburgh Monday night but with teams such as these, the thing that occurs to me is that the defense on either side is capable of putting up points and driving the scoring. I also think after a miserable return game in Pittsburgh, the Balltimore special teams will come up big to give the offense a short field. The weather is good and we have a fast track at M&T Bank Stadium. Pick: Over, 33 1/2.
Buffalo at Arizona (+2). The Bills are 4-0 but that record is built on the carcasses of some of the worst teams in the NFL, such as Oakland and St. Louis. The Cardinals are capable of wild swings looking great one week and horrible the next. Arizona is home after two weeks on the East Coast but without injured WR Anquan Boldin. The main thing to look at, though, is the improved play of Bills' QB Trent Edwards who is completing 65.5 percent of his passes and has thrown just two interceptions and the fact that the Cards are having a tough time protecting QB Kurt Warner Pick: Bills, giving 2.
Indianapolis at Houston (+4). Peyton Manning might be ready to hit his stride after missing all of training camp. The Colts are 1-2 and coming off a bye week. They cannot afford to lose to the Texans and will not. My concern is the single point over a field goal. Pick: Colts, giving 4.

Tuff weekend It was a very strange weekend for the pigskin. I think the refs had a pretty bad day in several cities yesterday.

B&G,
Just so everyone knows, it was an 0-2-1 weekend. But where were you when I was going 7-3 for the first three weeks.
