Orioles' loss exhausting

Last night's 6-5 Orioles loss to the Los Angeles Angels could be called a lot of things but mostly it was exhausting.  There were a lot of moments when the game looked like it should have been over considering the O's were down by four runs in top of the ninth with two out.

But if you stayed up late enough to see the game or have read about it, you know that an error by Angels first baseman Mark Teixeira and clutch hits by Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora allowed Baltimore to tied it.  Then, closer George Sherrill wound up giving up a double and three walks to force in the winning run.

After the game, the Orioles had reason to feel good about a comeback against the team with the best record in the majors and their closer, Francisco Rodriguez, but we are in that part of the season when attrition becomes a factor.  For instance, the Orioles will bring up Chris Waters from Norfolk to pitch tonight.  Waters, who is making his first Major League start,  was doing well at Double-A Bowie (1.69 ERA) but less so at Norfolk (5.70 ERA) so this could be interesting.  On top of that, center fielder Adam Jones, who has been an iron man this season, is out with a foot injury.  Somehow, the Orioles have to come up with the bodies and enthusiasm to keep battling with a shallow roster and after a disappointing defeat.

Error by Teixeira? Say it ain't so! Thorne talked to Teixeira before the game about him coming to Baltimore. Still sounds interesting.

Bill , i really like your blog the best because you take the time to reply back. Bill i have one problem with dave t, he always suger coats or finds postives out of something., while that may be a great trait to have in real life ,in regards to raising your family or running a business,it shouldn't aways be prevlent in sports. In his post game interview he said that were playing the best team in baseball and we never stop trying to win , that alone should speak wonders, Well bill that alone shouldn't be all that speak wonders, what about the 8 walks and 3 hit batters that constantly put this team behind the 8 ball all the time. you know it would be nice just once for him to explode and say that he is sick and tired of his pitchers not throwing strikes and from now on if it doesn';t change then you won't be here long. You can't always accept losing and find that one positive out of something, you can't get to the point in sports where you always try hard but still fail.Sometimes things are just not acceptable and you need to be realistic about it.

Bob,
I am going way back now when I say that the first manager I admired was Gene Mauch. I don't have to tell you how he reacted to losing. The thing with Trembley is that he can't and should not act out of character. Once this season I recall him showing his impatience with the pitching. I think at this point in the season, restraint may be best but next year, I think he has to bring out the stick more often.

Bill i agree but the game is 9 innings , not 1 , you can't always have the mind set that it's ok to lose as long as you play hard. that is what this organization has done to the fans of this town. they have brain washed them to thinking that we are in the so called rebuilding mode and acceptable for all of this to continue. I will give credit where credit is due,he has the chemistry of this team better then in the past but please you can't always find something nice to say when players are not doing the job that they get paid to due. I am not saying that he has to act like billy martin and have fights but instead of talking about how disappointed he was with geroge walking the winning run he thought it was acceptable to just say that we tied the game on the best closer in baseball.

You know i quess it just time to accept things the way they are, because as my late father told me many times don't worry over something that you don't have any control over. and i certainly don't have any control over anything that is related to the orioles. Bill the press in this town have asked dave many negative questions all year without ever receiving proper answers., and have just let him go without pressing the issue.Well i am fighting a losing battle in my convictions so i will stop frustrating myself.Keep up the good work.

Bob,
Hang in there. It's always a plus to have your voice heard.
