Irvin says Brett has been in charge all along
It's been several hours since the last incremental shred of news about Brett Favre and I don't know about you but I'm having withdrawal. It's actually getting addictive for me.
You know -- 10 a.m., Packers team president Mark Murphy boards unmarked private jet with undisclosed flight plan but headed due south; 1 p.m., Favre works out with local high school football team but leaves when he learns they won't let him compete for starting job, 3 p.m., unidentified league source tells ESPN's Chris Mortensen that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
So in the absence of substantial reports like the above, we have to bring you Michael Irvin's take on the Brett Favre situation in an interview with FOX Sports Radio Network's Out of Bounds. My favorite part is when the Playmaker suggest that Favre basically wants to go to Minnesota or Chicago just to spite the Packers.
So here it is, Irvin on Favre:
"It is an ugly thing here going on, but there's no way I can imagine the Green Bay Packers being able to force Brett Favre's hand in March when we can't do it here in July. And its just the reality of it, they asked him, no matter how they asked him or how hard they asked him they have done it for years, 'Brett, we need a decision by March this or March that.' Brett had the right to say this decision is huge for me and I'm sorry, I'm not ready to make this decision…The worst thing I hate out of all of it is Brett saying he wants to go to Minnesota or Chicago because it seems like a spiteful move. 'These are two teams I know you will play against every year and I want to come back and hurt you guys'. Now, I don't say he should have any loyalty to front office because that battle will ensue always between player and front office because we are talking about money. But certainly, certainly to the fans of Green Bay they deserve something besides you going to Minnesota or Chicago and coming back saying 'I will eat you up', in your attempt to eat up Ted Thompson you will eat up the fans that who have supported you so long and loyalty should lie there, no doubt to me it's Brett's fault."

BTW, when did Favre say he wanted to be a Viking or Bears?
Here's my problem with this Viking talk. It's BS. Favre has NEVER said he wants to play for the Vikings. This is all just based on wild speculation, driven by the Packers bogus, self-serving propaganda tampering allegations. In fact, all he's ever said is that he wants to play for the Packers.
I really don't think Favre EVER wanted to play for the Viking specifically. Rather, he's said is that he wants to play for the Packers, and if that's not possible, he wants his freedom so he can decide his own fate.
It actually has started to tic me off the way the media keeps saying, "We know Favre wants to play for the Vikings." NO THEY DON'T. They just keep saying it. There's not a single fact to back that assertion up.
Of course we assume that he wants to play with a great team, but the addition of Favre to A LOT of teams could make them contenders. The loss of Favre from the Packers, in most people's minds takes them out of Superbowl contention.
Favre has been talking to Bevell FOR YEARS! He's also talked to a lot of people with a lot of other teams for years.
The media has been putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 because that's what Thompson intended for them to do when he made those meritless tampering allegations. (But if I'm proven wrong, and the allegations have merit - I'll eat your shorts. )
In some ways, it might actually save Thompson from this PR nightmare of EPIC proportions to say he's trading Favre to the Vikings, saying that's what Favre wants, and then everyone could be mad at Favre, just like he planned.

Roger Goodell said that he would reinstate Brett Favre. So why won't he ? The NFL is applying pressure so their franchise can benefit financially from holding Favre hostage till an offer of their liking comes along. The league is in collusion with the Packers to effect an outcome that will benefit them both.
The choices are the same as a week ago: Release him, Trade him, or bring him to training camp. In any case I'm sure that James Cook will advise legal action if the NFL continues to violate the union contract by not reinstating BF.

Brett wants to play in GB, but that option was diffused by TT ego. As a life-time Packers fan, I would like to see Brett play again whether it's with the Packers or another team. I wouldn't be surprised if Rodger gets hurt in the middle of the season, and TT having to find a free-agent veteran QB.

It's a game. It only looks like a business. Either welcome him as the starter at camp or cut him. So he plays with the Vikings or even the Bears. What could be more interesting for the fans nation wide? What's wrong with bread and circuses? What is professional football anyway but gladiators in the Roman Coliseum?

Latest rumors has Favre coming back to the Packers in a non-playing consultant role.

I'm not sure I want this to end ... just kidding.
