Big Brown's Belmont failure brings out the comedians
It was inevitable that Big Brown's failure in the Belmont was bound to attract some satire, mostly because of trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. shooting off his mouth.
So we have two lampoons. First, sports business writer Darren Rovell comes up with a mock ad campaign for delivery service FedEx skewering rival UPS for its blatant commercial association with the colt. Slogan: "Big Brown, if you're not first ... you're last." See it here.
And then there's this video send-up of a Congressional hearing looking into steroid use by Big Brown. Dutrow admitted to administering steroids to Big Brown but then discontinued the practice. The steroid Big Brown was receiving was not a banned substance for horses in the states where the Triple Crown is run.

Bill , my wife and i watched the Belmont race for the 1st time , we rooted for Big Brown because how often Triple Crowns come along ?
The good news? At least all the horses are safe =)

Allan,
At this point, it seems that's what we're all rooting for.

I'm sure that Big Brown is having the last laugh. He certainly did not fail. He refused to be the push-button machine his connections would have liked, and he made it very clear he would not put up with the jockey's nonsense, the bad track, and the killer heat. Three cheers for Big Bown. I love him more than ever.

Rachel,
That made me laugh ... I kind of think that's exactly what happened. He said, are you guys nuts ... it's hot out here.

I think making fun of Big Brown's loss is sickening and disgusting. The poor horse does not deserve it. If anyone makes fun of anyone, make fun of the jockey's temper.

Sarah,
Actually, I think it's Big Brown who gets the last laugh. He's not concerned about what happened at the Belmont and he has a great life in front of him.

Steroids in horses to win superficial things like the Triple Crown....that's about as American as apple pie.

I think big brown chose to loose the race because I do the same thing in my car racing games, if the race is hard I just take second place, racings all about choices and I think big brown made I good choice.
