Vegas to Barkley: Show me the money!

Now this is entertainment.

The Clark County D.A. says that he has no knowledge that Charles Barkley has repaid the $400,000 he owes the Wynn Las Vegas and officials at the casino-resort likewise are saying they have not received payment, according to an Associated Press story.

Last night on TNT, Barkley said he had repaid the $400,000 in markers signed in October and that he was giving up gambling "for now," which he said meant the next year or two. Last week, the casino filed a civil complaint saying Barkley owed them the cash and district attorney David Roger has said he'll file a criminal complaint if Barkley doesn't come up with the money by June 9.

Tom, Tom, Tom ... that's the old Vegas. These guys with their lawyers like to make your life really miserable ... with lawsuits.

Oh bill did i mention that complusive gamblers are also the biggest liar's on earth. They never tell the truth about what they lost or how much they won.Does the word break even ring a bell because that is what everybody aways does when they gamble break even or win a few dollars.

This is a few posts late but...
Horseracing is unfortunately a dead sport. I went to my first races when I was a young teenager and was making wagers long before I was suppose to, no one ever questioned my age.
I've been riding a few times and enjoy it and horses but I just don't see the sport growing. As to the argument of allowing slots at racing I just don't understand it. I have nothing against gambling but why should the racing industry rake in the money?
If the sport cannot survive on its own (and I'm sure it is already getting tax breaks and other breaks) I don't believe they should be the recipients of a windfall from slots.
If you are going to have gambling do it the right way and have several nice casinos and hotels Take some of the profits and use it to reduce crime, improve education and not give it out to some corporation that has no real interest in the city.
Just my 2 cents, albeit a bit late.

Rich,
Thanks for writing. We all have a stake in this slots discussion. I encourageyou to read more about it because it will impact us all, whether in the taxes we pay, in the funding for public purposes that you mention such as education, and the in social ramifications of increased gambling.
