Bengals' Chad riffs on Marvin

You can't possibly mention Chris Henry's latest problems without acknowledging the Human Indigestion Attack, Chad Johnson.

Now Johnson is an entirely different situation. He DOES NOT have off-field problems, unless you count locker room blow-ups. But he has been a royal pain in head coach Marvin Lewis' big toe forever it seems and his criticisms of the Bengals' organization have been shrill (if somewhat justified).

Lewis recently said that the Bengals have to be prepared to move on if Johnson doesn't want to play for the team. Somewhere in there, Lewis also used used the word "affection," as in a lot of people who liked Johnson are now having misgivings about him.

Given this collection of the coach's thoughts, Johnson went on a riff on ESPN that makes you believe thoughts bounce around in the Pro Bowl wide reciever's head like Pinky, Blinky, Inky and Clyde in a Pac-Man maze.

Sample Chad quote: "Affection? Affection? That's the problem right there I'm always worried about people liking me, the player. The player is not gonna change but Chad has to do what's right for Chad ... I have to do what's right for me, period. That's why (Lewis) made the comment. He thinks I'm worried about people liking me. Those days are over. I'm not worried about them anymore, because I have to do what's right for me. Getting myself out of a losing situation, if that's what I have to do, then I have to do it."

Johnson did say that he intends to show up for mandatory minicamps and play as hard as he always has and embarrass anyone who tries to cover him. Draw your own conclusions.

Chad JOhnson = BLOWHARD. It's a shame. The guy is very talented (although not quite as talented as I think he thinks he is) and he plays on a good team with a good offense. Rather than try and do things the hard way, he wants to take the easy way out. Sometimes these guys don't know how good they have it. I like Marvin's approach. If he wants to play in the NFL, he will play for the Bengals. If not, they will move on without him. Good for Marvin and good for the Bengals. Even better for the Ravens if Chad does not play.

The Bengals hired Marvin Lewis he is supposed to a defensive guy he has had 5 years. The offense has not stop scoring but they are losing on defense. What is the point of having a defensive head coach if the defense is going to suck. You have to wonder who made Baltimore great when Lewis was the coach.

That was the problem in Baltimore. The head coach made his rep on offense and they could never score.

DG its not marvins fault that thurman, pollack, and brooks have been out the last two seasons. they would be MUCH better with them.

Hey frox, I think your on that BLOWHARD thinking that the Bengals are a good team. The Bengals defense hasnt stopped anyone in the last 6 years. And as far as Marvin Lewis, he's an arrogant coach who's big ego wont let him take responbility for his horrible team. Its easy for him to blame others for the problems of the team and calling out one of his few good players like Chad, but the team's record is a reflection of the head coach. The team will never get better because the small market ownership team wont spend the money on getting better players or let Chad go because its business issue not "character" issue with Chad Johnson. Most of those players on the sorry team (darn) well know that some of the players on team only play for the contract money and dont care if they win or lose, and thats why Chad Johnson probably wants to leave.
