Ravens grab Rutgers RB

The Ravens took Rutgers running back Ray Rice in the second round with the No. 55 pick. The Ravens need depth all over, RB included. John Harbaugh said Rice may get a chance to also return kicks. On trading down from the No. 38 spot in the second round with Seattle, GM Ozzie Newsome said that there were two players that the Ravens would have selected with that pick had they been available. But they were taken in the bottom of the first and the top of the second respectively. He didn't say who those players were. A guess would be the corners that went late first, early second, particularly Mike Jenkins, No. 25 to Dallas.

Rice is a low center of gravity runner at 5-foot-8, 200 pounds. He finished as Rutgers' all-time leading rusher with 4,926 yards and 49 touchowns.

The Ravens have nine picks tomorrow beginning with three in the third round.

With apologies to Sir Edmund Hillary, because he was there.

Bill, what are your thoughts about the Ravens packaging Rice and some draft picks to get a seasoned corner, like Lito Shephard from the Eagles?

Chris,
I don't think they're trading Rice ... and I doubt the Eagles would want someone else's pick. The Sheppard thing is amazing to me that Philadelphia hasn't moved him yet. I don't think that a third-round pick is enough to get him. Maybe a veteran and a third or a fourth but I'm having a tough time coming up with who that player might be, if we're talking Ravens.

Ray will wear Purple again like his days at New Rochelle High,New Rochelle New York.Ray keep making New Rochelle proud.

If Ozzie thought Mike Jenkins was going to fall to him in the second round, then he is a bigger fool than the one that drafted Joe Flacco with the 18th pick.

Ozzies good buddy James Harris in Jacksonville gave him a gift slew of picks - and he still blew it.

If he wanted Flacco, he could of had him in round 2 after drafting Mike Jenkins or Antoine Cason in Round 1, and possibly Ray Rice STILL would have been been on the board with the Ravens overall third pick.

Essentially, we GAVE AWAY a day one CB selection.

Bill
could Ray Rice be the next Brian Westbrook???

I'm a Raven's fan living in NJ. I have attended most of the Rutger's games played by Ray Rice. He is a smart, tough kid everyone will really like. Although a lot smaller, he always reminded me of Jamal Lewis at his peak. He has incredible balance and deceptive speed...his feet never stop moving until he is on his back!
