Tejada hero for Astros
So how do you think you'd react if the FBI were poking around taking a look at whether you had broken any federal laws?
Well, Miguel Tejada -- who has been the subject of a federal inquiry that he may have fibbed to investigators for a House committee about performances enhancing drugs -- seems to be handling the pressure okay. The former Oriole, traded in the offseason to the Astros, made a spectacular play in the the top of the ninth to keep Houston's game with St. Louis tied at 3-3 and then blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to win the thing.
In his first eight games with Houston, Tejada is off to a better-than-decent start. He's hitting .267 with five of his eight hits for extra bases, two doubles, a triple and two homers (six RBIs, five runs scored).
Last night, Houston manager Cecil Cooper said Tejada had not shown signs of having "lost a step" in the field. "I think he's way better than the guy we thought we were getting," Cooper said.

You know when you look at this instance, you have to say that the trade worked wonders on both sides. The Astros feel good that they gave up all those players for somebody like Tejada, who has produced there so far, and we got guys who have instantly produced for us. The only problem that the Astros have is what will happen when Tejada gets into trouble with the law like you've stated in your post, ultimately meaning that although a good producer in Tejada is gone, the O's still got the better bargain. Besides, this younger, fresher team is way better to watch play day in and day out than watching temper tantrums and tanked plays at the expense of Tejada.

Joe,
The O's got quantity and hopefully some quality in exchange for the instant production the Astros were hoping for. And better yet, as far as I'm concerned, they got rid of the distraction of a federal investigation, although that happened after the trade.
