Vegas on local teams: Mount St. Mary's favored

I just spoke with Robert Walker, the sports and race book director for MGM Mirage casinos in Las Vegas, and the current point spread on the Coppin State-Mount St. Mary's play-in game for the NCAA Tournament have The Mount at a 7 1/2-point favorite.

The odds on either team winning the national championship are the maximum odds for just about any sports bet in a Vegas casino -- 5,000-to-1. Remember, a No. 16 seed has never even won an opening-round game. The winner of Coppin State-Mount St. Mary's plays North Carolina in the first round.

In the UMBC-Georgetown game, the Retrievres are 17 1/2-point underdogs but some money has actually moved on UMBC lowering the odds slightly from an opening line of 18. UMBC is a No. 15 seed and Georgetown is a No. 2. The odds on UMBC winning the whole thing are 3,000-1.

Number 6 seeds are 10-6 against the 11's against the spread in the past four years.
