Local poker players make final tables
Keeping an eye on the World Series of Poker Circuit event at Caesars Atlantic City, I noticed that a couple of Marylanders made final tables, according to the tournament's official reports.
Adam Steinback, from Mechanicsville, finished sixth in Event No. 2 ($500 buy-in, 500 players) and cashed in for $12,500 (the winner got $72,500). Steinback happens to be a poker dealer. And Steve Oh, a network engineer from Catonsville, finished ninth in Event No. 4 ($1,000 buy-in, 411 players) and cashed for $8,220 (the winner in that one collected $123,300).
Interestingly, both Maryland players were knocked out with the same starting hand, ace-queen. Steinback was beaten when his opponent paired his underdog ace-10 with a 10, and Oh was sent to the rail when he ran into ace-ace.
The big event in that tournament starts Thursday, a $4,900 buy-in (plus $250 fee) that runs though Saturday. A $200 buy-in ladies event is also scheduled for Saturday.
