A couple of interesting developments in the NBA last night.

Miami continued its evolution as being one of the better teams in the Continental Basketball Association with a 96-54 loss to Toronto last night. The 54-point total was the third-lowest for any NBA team since the shot clock came along 53 years ago. The Heat was just five points off the record (Chicago, 49 against Miami, nearly nine years ago). The Heat is now 12-55, just a couple of seasons removed from winning the NBA Championship.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia outlasted Denver, 105-103, in Allen Iverson's first game back in Philly since being traded to the Nuggets in December 2006. The Sixers fans gave Iverson (left) a nice welcome-home ovation and he responded with 32 points.  But here's the thing -- that trade was meant to make Denver more of a contender in the Western Conference and while the Nuggets are 40-28 so far, they're still 2 1/2 games away from qualifying for the playoffs in the tough West. In contrast, the Sixers, although just .500, are in seventh place in the East and five games on the plus side of the playoff cutoff.
