Dukies, Heels renew blood feud

While folks are still trying to come up with a catchy label for New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree's helmet-aided grab of Eli Manning's desperation heave on New York's winning drive in the Super Bowl, in Chapel Hill, they may recall last year's meeting with Duke simply as "The Hack."

In that game, which the Tar Heels won, 86-72, Duke's Gerald Henderson famously hacked North Carolina All-America big man Tyler Hansbrough across the kisser late in what was the final regular-season game. Hansbrough's face was bloodied and he had to be restrained from going after Henderson.

Since then, Henderson has apologized and the two have even played as teammates in pickup games. But it's unlikely that the Smith Center crowd will be quite as forgiving tonight when No. 2 and No. 3 North Carolina (AP poll) play at 9 p.m. The game is on ESPN.

If it were possible, Maryland fans would root for a tie; the Terps play at Boston College earlier in the evening. But since that's not a likelihood, I suppose the better scenario is for North Carolina to win since the Terps have handed the Tar Heels their only loss and fell short against Duke. Maryland gets another crack at Duke on the road.

Here's a look at Henderson's hit on Hansbrough.

Unfortunately, the Heels will be without Ty Lawson tonight (or will be without a healthy Lawson). As great as Hansbrough is, Ty is the engine that drives the team. His last two games before getting hurt were among his best, with a combined 39 points, 20 assists and 1 turnover.

Yep, Lawson is possibly a no go.

er, Bill, MD does not play UNC again this year unless it's in the conf tourny.

Should prob check the (2008) schedule before writing such things...
