Waxman drops bomb

Rep. Henry Waxman dropped a bomb when he ran out a little tidbit that the Roger Clemens' side had contacted a nanny who was at Jose Canseco's house 10 years ago, supposedly at the party, and implied that the Clemens' side may have tried to influence her. The nanny was brought to Clemens' home in Texas over the weekend. Waxman didn't call it witness tampering but he didn't have to. That drew a heated response from Clemens' lawyer who was not supposed to address the committee.

The congressional staff had been trying to reach the nanny and had been asking the Clemens' side for contact information.

Clemens said to Waxman: "I was doing y'all a favor."

Interesting, isn't it, that at my running count, now 2 (or is it 3) have now asked McNamee point blanks if prosecutors strong-armed him into his testimony - specifically whether he was coerced to name Clemens as a steroids and hGH user, whether it's part of a deal he reached to save his own skin.

How many more times will McNamee have to respond to this question while under oath today, and what exactly is the point our distinguished representatives in Congress are going after? That Federal prosecutors and law enforcement should still be viewed as jack-booted thugs and sharky tricksters? That McNamee lied to prosecutors?

I mean, I dunno, McNamee's in deep doo-doo regardless of how he answers. If he made false statements to Federal officials, that a violation of the same part of the US Code that got Scooter Libby and Martha Stewart in trouble. If he's lied before Congress, he's going down on perjury charges. Just an observation....
