Quarterbacks finding homes quickly

The free agent market for quarterbacks is shrinking as I type and you read.

Todd Collins has re-signed with the Redskins. Chris Redman has re-signed with the Falcons. As we already mentioned, Cleo Lemon is moving to Jacksonville. Of course, the Browns worked out a three-year deal with Derek Anderson. Rex Grossman re-upped with the Bears last weekend. Josh McCown is visiting in Miami.

For anyone thinking that Donovan McNabb may be available in a trade, he said on the Mike & Mike show that he fully expects to be back in Philly next season.

So unless someone pulls a rabbit out of hat, the Ravens will not be getting any substantial veteran help at quarterback for next season. Not that that was much of a likelihood all along. There's still Daunte Culpepper and Byron Leftwich, I suppose. Billy Volek, anyone?

Volek is a better option than either Boller or McNair at this point. Check out his 2004 stats, when he received a few starts playing in place of the oft-injured McNair.

Thanks for the link to the stats.

There are never enough quality QBs to go around the league! Which is why when injuries start popping up. They start bringing in the elders!

Well, they haven't called me yet. What's Babe Laufenberg up to these days.

Would you want any of those QBs starting for the Ravens? We already had our fun with Redman (how awful the start to that season was) and the same goes with Anderson. The others are no better and probably worse than Kyle Boller. I wouldnt mind giving Kyle the chance to start the season under new offensive direction... you guys never know; Cameron might be the answer to Kyle Boller... and then have a solid backup in Smith... But then again I am not a coach right?

Andre,
Thanks for writing. I tend to agree that there's no one there that I would necessarily sign if it meant cutting someone they already have -- but McNair's fitness for duty is the big question mark in his case.

Give Boller the snaps for the first five games. Tell him it is his to lose; if he cannot perform under a new system that is actually INTERESTED in offensive numbers then it is time to look elsewhere for the future. I think that Boller has the talent, he just has not had anyone calling an offense since being drafted.

You asked about Babe. From wiki:
Currently, Laufenberg is the lead sports anchor for Dallas CBS affiliate KTVT. He was also the color man on the Cowboys Radio Network from 1996-2005, and hosted the head coach's weekly show during that period. He was replaced in his radio roles in 2006 by former Cowboys safety and pregame show host Charlie Waters. Laufenberg resumed his duties for the 2007 season.

Thanks for the info on Babe.
