Spags cashes in on Super Bowl win

A few days ago, we said here that one of the biggest winners coming out of Glendale Sunday night was Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, whose already rising stock had climbed even more as a result of New York's upset win and holding the Patriots to 14 points. Throughout the playoffs, Giants' opponents averaged just 16.25 points.

Well, we'll never be absolutely certain whether Spagnuolo could have parlayed that success into a head coaching position because he pulled out of the running for the Redskins' job with a new extension in his pocket from the Giants for $2 million a year.  New York's move to keep Spagnuolo mirrors what Dallas did when they gave Jason Garrett $3 million a year to stay in Dallas to run the offense.  New Ravens head coach John Harbaugh reportedly makes $2 million to $2.5 million.

With Spagnuolo out of the picture, former Ravens offensive assistant Jim Fassel would appear to move to the top of the Redskins' list.
