Judge Goodell back on the bench

Just in case NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has any free time between visits with U.S. senators, some of the league's charges are requiring his attention by getting into some offseason mischief.  Placing these events in the way-not-humorous category is that the mischief primarily involves allegations of the players putting their hands on significant others.

The latest is Oakland Raiders defensive back Fabian Washington, a first-round pick three years ago.  Washington, who has been an on-and-off starter at cornerback, is accused in Florida of getting physical with his live-in girlfriend.

Washington's incident yesterday follows Houston Texans receiver-returner Jerome Mathis being arrested late last week for allegedly choking his pregnant common-law wife.  Mathis missed most of last season injured, but scored a touchdown on a kickoff return.
