Steroid hearing kicks off

The congressional steroid hearing is under way with a statement by Rep. Henry Waxman reflecting on the credibility of the two star witnesses, Brian McNamee and Roger Clemens. Waxman went through instances that bolster and detract from each man's credibility. But the key new piece of information revolved around conversations that Clemens allegedly had with Andy Pettitte about Clemens' alleged use of hGH.

Pettitte recently told congressional staff members that in 1999 or 2000, Clemens admitted to using hGH. But in 2005 when the subject was raised again, Pettitte said, Clemens corrected Pettitte saying that that Pettitte misunderstood and that Clemens had been referring to his own wife, Debbie, as using hGH. However, although information has recently surfaced that McNamee did inject Debbie Clemens with hGH, that instance occurred after the 1999-2000 Clemens-Pettitte conversation.
