O.J. Simpson and the long arm of the law

O.J. Simpson has been in hot water for a fracas in Las Vegas where he and some associates allegedly barged into a hotel room -- that was not his own -- at the Palace Station hotel-casino to retrieve memorabilia that he contends belonged to him. The memorabilia was in the possession of some fellows who deal in collectibles. Apparently, harsh words were uttered, maybe a gun was involved, and there was general unpleasantness.

At the end of the day, Vegas prosecutors wound up charging Simpson with kidnapping, armed robbery and a bunch of other stuff.  So that has to work itself out yet.

But what we thought was interesting was a gander at just what kind of memorabilia Simpson was hoping to recover. Well, how about this vintage photograph of "The Juice" with none other than the original G-man (and we don't mean Frank Gifford) -- J. Edgar Hoover.

It's the USC-era Simpson in a spiffy All-America cardigan sweater.  There's another football player in the photo who is believed to be Simpson's Southern Cal teammate, Ron Yary. Yary was an offensive tackle who went on to have a Hall of Fame career mostly with the Minnesota Vikings.

Hoover, of course, in addition to enjoying a noteworthy career in law enforcement, went on to become the inspiration for Dustin Hoffman's role in the motion picture, Tootsie.
