Tony Romo (or Goober Pyle) with Jessica Simpson
This one we can't resist -- or avoid, either -- because it's all over the Internet.
Tony Romo apparently spent the bye weekend in Mexico with Jessica Simpson and who appear to be football-sized pals and/or bodyguards.
The original post appeared on flynetonline.com and immediately went through several Web sites, such as The Big Lead and Sports by Brooks, and finally to Fark, which means we'll probably be hearing about it on Leno or Letterman.
But what we find particularly embarrassing for Romo is not that he was with Simpson when some Cowboy fans would prefer he be studying game tapes or something (how about practicing those placekick holds, just in case) but that in one photo, this first one here on flynetonline, he bears a striking resemblance to comedian George Lindsey as Goober Pyle.

The football size pal you refer to is none other than his favorite tight end and friend Witten and wife. Give the guy a break!!!

Robert,
I saw that reference to Jason Witten also but without some confirmation I was reluctant to implicate the guy. Besides, there was more than one person who looked to be a football player. You know, if anyone can take the ribbing it's Romo. I think one of his greatest strengths is that he doesn't take himself so seriously. That's why he was able to bounce back from the bobbled hold and have a great season.

Troy Aikman would have never gone on vacation a week before the playoffs. Romo will have plenty of time during the off season to go to Cancun.

Dustin,
Thanks for the contribution. For the benefit of the audience, the website is a satirical look at the Cowboys quarterback.

Even as someone who hated the Cowboys during their 90's dynastic run, I have to admit that I also find Romo eminently likable. Funny, young, and talented, he's definitely a star the NFL should continue to push and market aggressively.

Jay,
Can't do better than Romo ... and while I'm supposed to be impartial, I'm especially impartial when it comes to the Cowboys. This kid is good for the game.

Tony Romo should be thinking about football at this time of year instead of acting like a "dufus" over someone like Jessica Simpson who is in her own right a loser.

Coach told the team to get away from football, Tony, Witten, and few others bolted for Cancun. Think about it - Tony cannot go anywhere in Dallas w/out being mauled by the press, etc. Sounds reasonable enough to me.

Dan,
I've seen conflicting info, was it Cancun or Cabo San Lucas. Just curious.

First of all, romo doesnt hold place kicks anymore. And it seems you are just mad because your SORRY ASS RAVENS didn't make it, so thats all you can do.. You have nothing to write about now.
I hope you die in a fire.
----------------------------------------
To the unnamed writer,
Of course, Romo doesn't hold any longer, Brad Johnson does ... that's why I jokingly wrote the disclaimer, just in case ... you must have missed that. I was tempted not to post your comment for the obvuous reason. But ignorance such as this deserves the full light ofpublic exposure.

So, Bill, I'm jealous because Romo gets a vacation, period!, while I have to wait in line until someone dies at UTEP before I get to go to Lordsburg, NM, for the Dust Bowl. And he gets to snuzzle with Jessica Simpson while I get to snuzzle with Jessica Rabbit (she's just drawn that way!)... Giants by 7!
---------------------------------------------
Denny,
I consider myself lucky if the lady barista at the Starbucks says ... Thank you for your order. That is a great line from Jessica Rabbit.

I think Tony Romo is not serious enough about winning. Times like these do not warrant side trips to Mexico and especially not with Jessica Simpson. She is definetly not a Dallas Cowboy fan favorite. I do believe the season is over and once again Tony will let us down. Thanks Tony for your focus and desire to win when it matters most!!!!!
