Akron winner at major bowl, just not how you'd imagine

Perhaps you missed the important announcement about the winner of the college Mascot of the Year competition (I know I did) during halftime of the Capital One Bowl, which was won by Michigan, 41-35, over Florida.

Well, the University of Akron didn't make it to any bowls -- the football team stumbled to a 4-8 record -- but the school's mascot, Zippy the Kangaroo, beat out 11 competitors to emerge as college sports' top furball. Finishing second was Minnesota's Golden Gopher.

For those unfamiliar with Zippy, we have a rap song featuring the Buckeye State's famous 'Roo.
Thanks to the Fark website for the alert on Zippy.
