Marion Jones sentenced to prison
So what will it take for athletes to get the message that using performance-enhancing drugs to gain an advantage is a gamble not worth taking?
A tough federal judge figures it's prison time.
Today, U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas sentenced disgraced former Olympic track star Marion Jones to six months in prison as a result of her admission that she lied about her steroids involvement and also about her knowledge of a fraudulent check-cashing scheme. Jones had pleaded with the court that she not to be sent to jail because of her two children, including an infant.
In addition to the prison time, Karas sentenced Jones to two years probation and 800 hours of community service during which Jones is expected to work with young people.
As ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack points out -- and which we've mentioned here a few times -- it is the cover-up, in this case telling falsehoods to investigators, that gets folks in hot water. Even more than the original wrongdoing.

Marion Jones is someone who was looked at as a champ. She deserves Jail time for being deceitful. She cheated.
