It could have been, 'Bombs Away,' Baltimore
Every once in a while, I check in on the Web site, Uniwatch, which chronicles all things as they apply to sports uniforms and the like.
Today on Uniwatch, the discussion was about the NFL expansion in the mid-1990s that brought the Jacksonville and Carolina franchises into the league and the proposed logos and designs not only for those teams but for other cities that were vying for franchises, including Baltimore.
Of course, Baltimore lost out in that expansion but if there had been a expansion franchise awarded to Charm City, a leading contender for a name would have been the Bombers. And here's a look at the logo on a helmet and what looks like a patch.
Interesting stuff but during hard times, Bomber would have been a dangerous name in the hands of a clever headline writer.

I wonder if they really would have used Bombers as a name - bombs are much more dangerous than Bulletts and we all know they had to change their name because guns don't kill people - sports nicknames do.

I'm a big Uni Watch fan myself, Bill. It's also hard to imagine the scrutiny most folks would have put the Baltimore Bombers under post-9/11. I suppose everything worked out the way it did for a reason.
