Gibbs quits as Redskins coach
Redskins coach Joe Gibbs has quit just days after his team was eliminated in the playoffs. Although Gibbs has been criticized at times in his second go-around as Washington's coach, such as when he caused his team to be penalized for calling a double timeout at the end of the game against Buffalo when the Bills won on a last-second field goal, he also got high marks for pulling his team together after the death of safety Sean Taylor and making the playoffs.
Despite playing generally poorly against the Seahawks in Seattle, the Redskins had a lead in the fourth quarter and could have added to it, but a short field goal failed.
Either of two high-priced assistants -- Al Saunders (offense) or Gregg Williams (defense) -- could replace Gibbs.

Comments
Saunders or Williams could very well replace him. But, rumors have been floating for the past year, that Danny was courting Cowher.

Oh no, not Cowher again.

Did you read the Tom Boswell article in the Washington Post? Tom is a very good sports writer for the DC area and is normally "spot on". I guess it just shows you that even the good get them wrong, once in awhile.

Tom has been an excellent writer for a long time.

Joe Gibbs,
You've had a good run! Thanks for all you've done, not only for the Redskins's fans, but for DC and its history.
You're nearly irreplaceable!
