Cain was able to destroy Brock Lesnar
Cain Velasquez is the new UFC heavyweight champion. From the opening bell until referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight last night the undefeated Velasquez dominated former champion Brock Lesnar. He knew how to exploit Lesnar's weaknesses and he challenged Lesnar to stand and strike with him.
This is why it’s called mixed martial arts (MMA) and not just wrestling. Velasquez utilized his hands and feet to win by technical knockout at 4:12 in the first round.
Lesnar, known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” didn’t stand a chance on his feet. UFC heavyweight Junior Dos Santos on the fight: “Brock fought like a truck with no driver.” In the past, Lesnar would set the pace of the fight by taking his opponent down. But Velasquez, also an accomplished wrestler, kept the fight standing. When it did go to the ground, he was able to get back to his feet.
UFC hall of famer Randy Couture said on MMA Live, “I think he’s (Velasquez) got the total package. The work ethic, the conditioning, he’s put a well-rounded game together."
Velasquez had such a very calm demeanor throughout the fight. On MMA Live after the fight he said, “The plan was to keep the distance and if he takes us down just get back up.”
After the fight, UFC president Dana White placed the heavyweight belt around the champion's waist. From what I could observe, White didn’t look pleased with the outcome. I know Lesnar has been part of two of the most profitable pay-per-view events in the UFC. But there is a new sheriff in town, and his name is Cain Velasquez.
After the fight White talked about Lesnar: “He’s only fought five times in the UFC. We’ve seen fights where his stand-up looks good. He’s not going to win any boxing titles, but it looks good when he’s doing the punching. When he starts getting hit is when his hands start to fall apart. It’s not a matter of working on his hands enough. It’s a different ballgame when you’re getting punched in the face.”
As Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan 'til they get punched in the mouth.”
From what I saw from Lesnar, Fedor Emelianenko would have destroyed him in the cage. Emelianenko is the most well-rounded heavyweight in the world. And his price tag to bring him to the UFC, just got higher.
What’s your opinion?

You've got to be kidding. Fedor again?
Fedor lost in the first round to a fighter (Werdum) who got CUT from the UFC. Fedor would get murdered by any top 5 UFC Heavyweight at this point..
5 years ago, sure, Fedor was unquestionably the man. Now? No. The UFC contains the best fighters in the world, period.
YourKidding,
Why do you think Dana White is still trying to sign Fedor?

When will it be acceptable for a white man to have a big 'White Pride" tattoo across his chest? It seems quite all right for Cain to have a Brown Pride tattoo? Hmmm, double standard anyone?

Fedor would annihilate Lesnar! I've said this for over a year now!!! Brock is OVER RATED!!!!

By the way, if Shane Carwin would've let Brock up in the first round instead of layin on him in their last fight, Brock wouldn't've even been fighting last night!! Brock "glass jaw" Lesnar is not a competitor!!! Hope he goes back to wrestling where he belongs, hes safer where the fights are scripted...

I was happy to see someone finally be able to expose Brock. You can tell that Brock has because when he fights against guys who hit him, he normally runs, stumbles, etc. to get out of there.
I'm more excited to see JDS and Cain though. That's going to be a great stand up battle if Cain decides to trade with him.
Phi,
I agree. Cain and JDS should be a five-round war. Not a 4 minute beat down, like Brock was.

Never been a big MMA person but wanted to see this fight. Velasquez whipped Lesnar butt big time. No contest whatsoever. Absolutely amazing to me.
Flu,
You picked a great card to see.

I thinks its bs that everybody says lesnar is over rated. he beat mir which has a awesome ground game. he beat shane carwin who has the heavist hands in the ufc. Cain didnt hurt him like shane did,I hope dana white lets them rematch in about a years time. lesnar was stumbling more from being exsausted then being hurt, till he got up after the stumble and cain drilled him on the left ear. ugh i dont care who you are shots like that affect anyone. Lesnar made one mistake he burnt his self out in the opening 2 mins. to say cain domnate is bull lesnar charged out the gate and won the opening 2 mins hands down nobody can stop him from taking them down.if they rematch and lesnars wrks on his stand up and stop some of his habits he'll murder cain, hands dwn, i can't wait...

@ kevin
get your info right.. its amazing how many of you ppl still dont get the fact werdum walked away from a (expletive) deal the UFC was throwing at him. UFC did NOT cut him, he pretty much left cuz he didnt like the lowball amount of money they were trying to throw at him... MMA 101, L2use it
Ramsin,
I never said a thing about Werdum.

VA,
Brock went crazy the first two minutes and wore himself out because he was afraid of Cain. If you watch most fights (esp title fights), there is a feel out period for the 1st minute or two (some cases the whole first round). Brock knew if he stood with Cain, he'd get destroyed. I mean even Mir give Brock tweety birds with a knee in their rematch. Brock's gameplan was to use his weight and lay on Cain until he was tired.
Brock IS overrated for the simple fact he outweights ALL his opponents (besides Carwin) and only can wrestle. I said it in my last post against Carwin on here, Brock has probably the worst stand up game for any fighter (I change that now since Shields is in the UFC). Brock learning boxing is like James Toney learning jiu-jitzu.
Phi,
I couldn't have said it better. Great post.

I totally agree with article, it was the first thing I thought about after I saw the fight. I dont think Cain is the best in the world (and hasnt been tested), and clearly Brock isnt either. Fedor has shown consistency at the top level and the well rounded skills that make him able to deal with all situations, not just when you can overwhelm your opponent like in UFC!!

@ flu.....
'Cain didn't hurt him like Shane did'?!?!?!?!?!? Are you serious?!?!?!? Did you not see that 5 inch deep gash on his cheek bone? The pints of blood all over Brock and the octagon? The bruised and swollen eyes? Wowwww.....What fight were you watching?
"Lesnar made one mistake he burnt his self out in the opening 2 mins. to say cain domnate is bull lesnar charged out the gate and won the opening 2 mins hands down nobody can stop him from taking them down"....?!?!?!?!?....Uh, Cain stopped him from taking him down fairly easy. And when he did take him down, Cain popped right back up just like it was nothing. And I'm sorry, but Cain DID dominate Lesnar. Brock NEVER looked comfortable and looked unsure of what to do after his first 10 second 'bullrush' failed. I'm speechless, really, after reading your comments....I mean, we're all entitled to an opinion but let's at least know what were talking about...
