The end of Kimbo Slice?
The end of Kimbo Slice?
A forgettable episode of The Ultimate Fighter really served to set the stage for the Roy Nelson vs. Kimbo Slice fight on next week’s episode. Rashad seems to have this whole “coaching” thing figured out, which is why he put his most experienced fighter against the biggest question mark in show history. In a move destined to hurt ratings, Nelson vs. Slice was a smart move for Evans.
What was more surprising is just how bad Rampage is at making fights. He picked two poor bouts to start the season and from the looks of it, he will never get control back. I will say that it looked like Wes Shivers was beating James McSweeney. I think it’s insane that two judges gave the first round to McSweeney. Both guys gassed ridiculously early and while McSweeney had some excellent leg kicks, Shivers definitely controlled what action there was (until midway through the second).
A sloppy fight, but the real excitement came when Evans set the fight for next week’s episode. I would bet $100 gabillion dollars Kimbo Slice loses because let’s face it, the guy has very, very little MMA training. He has acceptable stand-up skills (but still not major league quality) and NOTHING ELSE.
And he’s fighting the heavy favorite to win the season in Roy Nelson. Nelson gave Andrei Arlovski problems. I’m sure he won’t struggle with Slice. That said, if Slice is taken out, what could be in his future? E-mailer Damian Siwek argues a bout with Mirko Cro Cop.
"However, even if Kimbo makes an early unceremonious exit next week, I still think he will fight in the UFC at couple of times. Dana [White] underestimated how many fans Kimbo has. He admitted the ratings went well beyond what they expected for the first show. Kimbo will no doubt generate PPV revenue, but he's in no way in line for a title shot. So who could he fight?
Kimbo vs. Mirko Cro Cop. Here's why:
1.) Both of these guys have unbelievably massive fan bases. If UFC 103 showed us anything it's that people still LOVE Cro Cop, despite the fact he's a shell of his former self. TUF ratings show that Kimbo can still draw plenty of eyes. People will tune in for this.
2.) Here are 2 guys who are both 35 with something to prove. Cro Cop has looked pedestrian in his last 2 fights, but he still has the chops to kick Slice's head off. If Kimbo wins, he would beat a legend which would give him some credibility as a mixed martial artist (although beating Cro Cop now would not carry the weight it once did). Basically this is a winnable fight for either guy which could keep their careers alive.
3.) With Rampage leaving the UFC, one of the biggest fights of the year (Rampage v. Rashad) is off the table. Kimbo v. Cro Cop is an intriguing fight which is exactly what the UFC needs right now to fill the void." -- Damian
Any bout involving Kimbo Slice will be intriguing, but can the UFC really hold onto a guy that is 100 percent gimmick? A guy that hasn’t proven anything in the Octagon? I would be shocked to see the UFC keep him, even if he does get ratings. I would be even more shocked to see him as a featured fight on a PPV. And I think Cro Cop, even in his advanced age, would destroy Kimbo.
I’d still pay to see it though.
Truth be told, I think the rumors back up Damian on this one. The popular rumor is that Kimbo will be (has been) signed by the UFC and will fight in December. Who knows, there may be life after TUF just yet even if Slice doesn't win it all.

I think you, and everyone else on the internet are underestimating Kimbo Slice. The guy is a great fighter. Although yes, he is an underdog in the fight against Roy, I think he will definately give him a show.
Kimbo can take a beating. I have seen many "Champions" go down by the underdog.. and this Roy Nelson, only had 1 good fight against a real fighter.. the rest of his fights were terrible.. watch them, and you will see.
With that said, Yes.. I do believe Kimbo has a very good chance.

This will never happen but I would pay to see Brock Lesnar fight Kimbo Slice to see Kimbo get dominated. Although I disagree with so many people that say Brock Lesnar is bad for MMA, he's not skilled, etc. to see him fight Kimbo would be funny. I think seeing Kimbo fight someone such as Mir wouldn't be entertaining because Mir would just use his skills to completely put on an MMA Clinic against Kimbo. It would be like a training session. However, seeing someone like Brock fight Kimbo, someone who could just out power, and show Kimbo his raw power would be interesting to see. Kimbo I think prides himself on street fighting ability and strength, what happens when he faces the Big Gorilla who is a freak of nature. What would happen to Kimbo. I think its obvious that Brock would dominate but it would be entertaining to watch

Kimbo Will Win. He is much quicker and stronger than Country.

No reason to necessarily make Kimbo's fight on a PPV. He could be on a UFN or the Tough Finale after he loses. He'll be more likely to bring in casual fans in those settings then getting them to pay for a PPV. While Crocop could be interesting would he be healthy by then?

people are underestimating kimbo, all it takes is 1shot from kimbo 2 hurt sum1 cuz of his punchin power so with that said i think he has a chance but wheather he wins or lose dana white already said kimbo will be in the UFC, rashad evens recommended it cuz he wanted to help kimbo improve his skills

You must be a confused and dazed republican hoping for and praying for the downfall of another blackman. Seems theres a lot of your type of hate going around so let me be blunt you underestimate kimbo slice. I sincerely hope that he goes on to knockout that candy a$$ brock lesnar and make all of you haters out there eat crow.

Kimbo is definitely tough and seems to be a very quick learner. I think with a little training he will be able to over come a wrestler. Roy doesn't look that impressive. All the fights on ultimate fighter so far have been pretty ugly. Either the gas out or aren't aggressive. I know big guys get tired faster but geez.

I'm not a Kimbo fan...but not a hater either, but I do not like Roy at all. I think he is way over rated and he thinks he’s better than everyone else. I would like to see Kimbo KO him fast. After that though, I don’t think Kimbo will get another win. He just doesn’t have the ground game to compete...yet.
And as far as him fighting Cro Cop, I don’t think that will happen either. Didn’t Cro Cop retire after his last fight? Honestly they will probably give him a decent fighter at best, maybe someone like Heath Herring. Haven’t seen Herring fight in a while; I think it would be an entertaining match up.

Kimbo is a great fighter his loss in elite X was lucky kimbo made the mistake of exposing his jaw and took a punch no one could take he is more cautious now and with training with rampge jackson he is improved notice how jackson favors him and trains him special because they want him to win but only kimbo can win no matter how much traing he gets we will see if he has what it takes this comming wensday kimbo will win and start the rampage win streak.

I think people are too hard on Kimbo! I mean....I have yet to hear Kimbo say he's the baddest man on the planet. The only thing he says, "I'm ready to thump." Tank Abbot was considered to be a UFC great, and he wasn't a technicial fighter. I think we got so adjusted by fighter with all these fancy moves and skills we forgot about they do....they FIGHT! Kimbo is a great fighter, and I like his approach of wanting to learn and get better. No one talks about that! The UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar isn't that great. Lesnar fight with Mir was just him laying on him, and doing nothing. Lesnar stand up in terrible! All I'm saying is give Kimbo a chance!

I seriously doubt you would bet "$100 gabillion dollars" let alone $100 dollars (pun intended). You should read up what Dana White and the Fertitta brothers have been saying about Kimbo (Hint: they said they were impressed). I doubt they would say that if he gets steamrolled by Big Country. Yes, he may lose, but I doubt it. Why else would Rashad say he wants him in Greg Jacksons training camp with him. Why else would Rashad say he regretted not picking Kimbo? I haven't seen Roy look that good in any of his fights, and the one common opponent they have had; Bo Cantrell, was knocked out by Kimbo in 19 seconds, whereas it took Big Country a 3 round decision to win. I'm not a huge Kimbo fan, but lets be honest, he deserves more credit than you give him.

Pit bull knocked big country out in like 10 seconds. No trouble there.
If you gotta lift your belly up to see ur dik you shouldnt be a fighter.
Next topic plz.

Isn't this Kimbo Slice the same guy that got knocked out by a guy he outweighed while the guy was standing on one leg?
Anybody who thinks that guy could beat Brock is an idiot, plain and simple. Anybody who's seen the Brock/Heath Herring fight has seen Brock's power. Oh and the Mir fight too.

In case you haven't seen Kimbo's greatest hit. And it was a SHORT RIGHT!
This blog should require an IQ test before allowing comments.

Some of you guys are out of your mind. There is no way country is the favorite to win the season. He is way out of shape, the only way for him to beat Kimbo is to fall on him. At one time Roy was a great fighter just like Tank Abbott you remember him right?
kimbo layed him out in the first round. Kimbo doesnt have much of a ground game but he is a fighter with a strong will who would rather die than tap out. Just look in his eyes and you will see just how hungry he is. He may fall later but not to Country who wears his experience around his waist.

There's alot of people who wonder if Kimbo wins against Roy Nelson or not. Well i have the results, No joke. I don't know if i can post them here or not but if you wanna know who wins then let me know.

Kimbo is not, and never will be, a great fighter. That being said, he is somewhat underrated (by non-fans) because of the ridiculous expectations for him while he was with elitexc. I also thing Roy Nelson is overrated. Nelson should be a slight (not-heavy) favorite for this fight.

Mark you must know that Mirco Cro Cop has been suspended by the UFC indefinately! He is washed up and too old to fight anymore. He lost his mojo when he got knocked the !#@$% out with his own move by Gabriel Gonzaga. Nobody cares about seeing Cro Cop vs. Kimbo. Have Kimbo fight the beast Brock Lesnar.

Whoop some ass Kimbo, WHOOP SOME ASSSS!!!

Kimbo is a powerful striker who excels in street fights but has none of the conditioning or training necessary to be a proper mma fighter, I hear some people make a race issue of it, to me that is dumb, there are many excellent black fighters, silva, guillard, evans, luazou(think that is spelled wrong), jackson etc.. so to be talking about kimbo like he is hated on because he is black just shows a lack of knowledge of the other fighters present in mma.

After episode of TUF, I'm not sure I want to watch the rest of it. I'm a Kimbo fan just based on the man's makeup. I read his story on ESPN, I give him props for turning his life around when so many people give up.
As for the Shivers / McSweeney fight. A draw wasn't bad judging but 2 rounds to 0 for McSweeney was a complete joke. The dude took a beating in the 1st round. The most effectiveness was the when Shivers was dead tired.

man, kimbo won that fight. if you guys remember, before the show came on, they said that kimbo cooked the best steaks in the house. well, he aint cooked yet and if he lost, i dont he would feel like cooking anything...lol
Posted by: beane | September 26, 2009 1:12 AM
Kimbo's been training MMA for almost 3 years now, and been fighting years befroe that. He's had fights on bigger stages than pretty much everyone on the show....I dont know why people call him a nube
Posted by: David | September 26, 2009 1:38 PM
First off anybody who says that kimbo would knock out brock..let alone actually stay in the ring with him for more than 2 mins might have to seriously ask them selves do they know anything about mma.
you also might wanna get some history on the to fighters before you even begin to talk about fight by the will never happen.
Now in saying all that i think with the proper trying kimbo could be a pretty good complete fighter. but even after that i still dont think he would be any where near the fighting skill that brock is....i mean brock destoryed 3 well developed heavyweights...1 legand and one of the best submission artist in the game...he made them look like it was there debut...a bad one at that.

Cro Cop retired.

Kimbo's going to make fast work of Big Country.
Forget about Kimbo vs. Lesnar. Kimbo vs. Mir would be an interesting match-up, but Lesnar?
Once Machida dominates his division, let's let him put Lesnar to sleep.

You know Kimbo Slice has no mma skills at all. He has ok standup, no ground skills, and if you call backyard brawles experience then hell I have a few guy in my town that I would proclaim bad asses as well. I used to completely hate this guy. Thought he was bad for the sport and a complete gimick, which he is. But I kinda feel sorry for the guy. A few words from his mouth and you can tell he has little brains, and really what else is this guy gonna do? I think he's got balls really, and maybe even some heart. I'm rooting for kimbo slice these days. He's been bashed so much by mma experts that you think he'd be under a rock right now. But he's on the ultimate fighter, not some B or C rate mma promotion fighting jo blows. He's really getting tested here, and for that kimbo gets my props. Help him Rashad!!! Rampage has drank one to many energy drinks and really needs to be evaluated mentally. I wouldn't take any sort of advice from that guy at this point. Anyway more power to ya kimbo...
