Live: Baysox vs. Connecticut -- Matusz starts

Good evening from the press box at Prince George's Stadium.

It's very humid here, but the sky seems to be clear. That's always a good sign on a muggy day in July. However, I wouldn't rule out storms passing through later in the night.

Before I forget, it's Mustache Mania Monday tonight. There are plenty of fully grown mustaches, including some here in the press box.

I'm not participating in the promotion, in case anyone cares. I know, I'm a poor sport.

Double-A Bowie Baysox starting pitcher Brian Matusz looks to climb to 7-0 since joining the team in the middle of June when he faces the Connecticut Defenders tonight. The 22-year-old left-hander has allowed one earned run or less in 11 of his 17 starts this season, dating back to the beginning of the year with the Single-A Frederick Keys.

Here are some additional game notes, courtesy of the two teams:

• Baysox players Danny Figueroa and Paco Figueroa, who are brothers in case you didn't know, have combined to hit .388 (26-for-67) with runners in scoring position so far this season.

• The Baysox loaded the bases in each of the final three innings of yesterday's game against the Reading Phillies, but they weren't able to score in the 2-0 loss. Bowie is batting only .184 (11-for-67) with the bases loaded in 2009.

• Bowie right fielder Ambiorix Concepcion is hitting .287 at home, and six of his eight home runs have come at Prince George's Stadium.

• Over the weekend, Connecticut collected its first series sweep at home against the New Britain Rock Cats. The Defenders also swept the Rock Cats twice on the road in 2009.
