Today's game recaps -- June 19

The Triple-A Norfolk Tides lost to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Harbor Park, while the Double-A Bowie Baysox were edged by the New Britain Rock Cats at Prince George's Stadium.

The Single-A Frederick Keys pounded the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on the road, and the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds split a doubleheader with the Hagerstown Suns at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds fell in their first game to the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Norfolk Tides (AAA)

Score: Lehigh Valley IronPigs 8, Norfolk Tides 6 (Box score)

Recap: In his Triple-A debut, first baseman Brandon Snyder was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, but the Tides dropped an 8-6 decision against Lehigh Valley.

Norfolk starting pitcher David Hernandez (3-2) suffered the loss after giving up five runs and seven hits in six innings. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out eight batters and issued two walks.

Center fielder Joey Gathright continued his recent hot streak for the Tides. The 28-year-old outfielder was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and he is batting .410 with six doubles and nine runs scored in his past 10 games.

Tides designated hitter Jolbert Cabrera and right fielder Jeff Fiorentino each collected two RBIs, and second baseman Melvin Dorta added two hits and an RBI.

Bowie Baysox (AA)

Score: New Britain Rock Cats 5, Bowie Baysox 4 (Box score)

Recap: First baseman Eric Crozier, who joined the Baysox on Friday, hit a solo home run in the ninth inning during Bowie's 5-4 loss to New Britain.

The Baysox trailed, 5-0, in the eighth inning before climbing back into the game.

Bowie third baseman Mike Costanzo was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and shortstop Robert Valido added an RBI and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Bobby Livingston (5-2) gave up four runs (three earned) and nine hits in six innings for the Baysox. The 26-year-old left-hander collected five strikeouts and didn't walk anyone.

Frederick Keys (A)

Score: Frederick Keys 11, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2 (Box score)

Recap: First baseman Brandon Waring was 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in the Keys' 11-2 victory over Myrtle Beach.

It was the 23-year-old infielder's 12th home run of the season, which ties him for fourth place in the Carolina League.

Center fielder Matt Angle was 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs scored for the Keys, raising his batting average to .300 in 58 games this season, while shortstop Pedro Florimon Jr. added a stolen base and two RBIs.

Frederick starting pitcher Zach Britton (4-2) allowed one run and seven hits in five innings. The 21-year-old left-hander struck out seven batters and issued two walks.

Keys right fielder Billy Rowell collected two hits and two runs scored, and left fielder Robbie Widlansky was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Delmarva Shorebirds (A)

Game 1 score: Hagerstown Suns 4, Delmarva Shorebirds 2, 7 innings (Box score)

Game 1 recap: Infielder Tyler Kolodny hit his fifth home run of the season, but the Shorebirds blew a late lead in a 4-2 loss to Hagerstown in the first game of the doubleheader.

Delmarva relief pitcher Brandon Cooney (2-3) gave up three runs (one earned) and three hits in one inning, while Travis Keating tossed a scoreless inning.

Shorebirds second baseman LJ Hoes was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Starting pitcher Cole McCurry allowed one run and five hits in five innings, but he didn't factor in the decision. The 23-year-old left-hander collected six strikeouts and didn't issue any walks.

Game 2 score: Delmarva Shorebirds 8, Hagerstown Suns 4 (Box score)

Game 2 recap: In the second game, Hoes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lift the Shorebirds to an 8-4 win over Hagerstown.

Delmarva catcher Brendan Monaghan and first baseman Elvin Polanco each added two RBIs.

Relief pitcher Joe Esposito earned the victory for the Shorebirds after only giving up two hits in 2 2/3 scoreless innings. All eight outs that the 24-year-old right-hander recorded were on strikeouts.

Shorebirds starting pitcher Pat Egan collected six strikeouts and didn't walk anyone in 4 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed four runs (two earned) and nine hits.

Aberdeen IronBirds (A)

Score: Hudson Valley Renegades 4, Aberdeen IronBirds 2 (Box score)

Recap: Center fielder Steve Bumbry hit his first professional home run, but the IronBirds dropped their season opener to Hudson Valley, 4-2.

Aberdeen third baseman Tyler Kelly was 3-for-4, and shortstop Blake Davis added a hit and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Colin Allen (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) and five hits in five innings for the IronBirds. The 22-year-old right-hander struck out five batters and issued one walk.

IronBirds relief pitcher Stephen Procner only gave up one hit in three scoreless innings.

Looks like Hernandez is taking his demotion pretty hard with his last two starts. He's probably trying too hard.Now it's possible one of the other guys can leapfrog him if there's an opening in the rotation.
