Snyder promoted to Triple-A Norfolk

In the clubhouse after the game, Baysox players were congratulating Brandon Snyder.

The 22-year-old first baseman was promoted to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides following Bowie's 2-0 win over the Reading Phillies at Prince George's Stadium.

Snyder will head to Norfolk in the morning, and he plans to be ready for tomorrow night's game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

No corresponding move was announced, but one is expected tomorrow afternoon.

Snyder was 0-for-3 with a walk in tonight's game, and he batted .343 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs in 58 games for the Baysox this season.

"It definitely means a lot to me," Snyder said about the promotion. "I've been fortunate to play with these guys, and everything I've done here, you have to tip your hat to the guys you play with."

Orioles director of player development David Stockstill spoke highly of Snyder after the game.

"He has swung the bat really well, and he has made improvements on how he reads offspeed pitches," Stockstill said. "He's matured in taking the pitches and driving the ball all over the field, so we feel like it's the time that he can move up and make adjustments and compete at that level."

Stockstill didn't rule out a possible promotion for Snyder to the Orioles before the end of this season, but he stressed that the young prospect would need to excel in Norfolk.

"I think it's better to talk to [Orioles president of baseball operations] Andy [MacPhail] to do the call-ups, but if Snyder goes up there [to Norfolk] and shows what he showed here, there's a lot of possibilities," Stockstill said.

With the Baysox improving to 35-30 after tonight's victory, the move to Norfolk is bittersweet for Snyder.

"It's tough to leave, but at the same time, it's going to be good to start the new adventure," he said.

Well done Dean!

Keep then coming.

Congrats Brandon!
You deserved it!
Can't wait to see you in the bigs late this year or next year.

While I am excited about what is finally happening in B-More, I am actually looking at stories and box scores for the minor league system before I do the Big club. Since midseason last year, it has been great to look at the minors and see the vast improvemnet they have made. It's really nice to look at the standings and see they almost all are .500 or better instead of finding the teams at every level at the bottom of the standings. And, it's also great to see all the promotions being made because the are worthy of promotion, not because of necessity. The O's are finally on the right path.

Brandon:

Good luck to you and see you down the road... SOON!!!

Are they trying to get snyder ready to open the season as their 1st baseman next year in baltimore ? does that spell the end for huff ? what about the prince fielder rumors, are they dead or was it never going to happen? lots of options for the O's at 1st after this season.

If he really lights it up at Norfolk, they should try to deal Huff for fair value and ponder letting him spend the last two months in the big leagues to see what he's got. But I do agree with the club in that he should have to excel at AAA first.

It's too bad the O's really have no other IF position prospects trying to break down the door to the show with him ...

> How about Justin Turner? He looked like a major leaguer in the Spring. Too bad his position is 2B where Roberts reigns. I wonder if Turner can play 3B or SS.

Glad to hear Brandon Snyder's hard work is paying off for him. I've been thinking the way Aubrey Huff has been playing , the Orioles might sign him to an extension. I wonder where that would leave Snyder. Do you think Snyder might stay at Norfolk for an entire year before being promoted to the Orioles?

Why would anyone want to trade Aubrey Huff? Why would you want to trade away 30 hrs,100 rbi, and an occasional game-winning hit. For a prospect?

You don't trade Huff. He's a solid senior member of a lineup that requires a bit of seasoning while the young guys develop. I am excited to hear this news about Snyder, and hope he continues to progress. If he properly matures and gets the call-up, you resign Huff for another 2 years. Maybe exercise Mora's option, since there is no other 3B that we have. If anything, I would use Luke Scott as trade bait. I know Luke is a hometown favorite, but because of his age, I think we could get a lot more value, especially if he continues to put up these numbers.

That would make next years lineup look something like this:

Roberts 2B
Jones CF
Markakis RF
Huff DH
Mora 3B
Reimold LF
Weiters C
Snyder 1B
Izturas SS

The O's should be looking to snag Prince Fielder. They could've had him in the 2002 draft but went with Loewen.

Prince is a bonafide slugger, something this club sorely lacks.

It might cost us Reimold, Bergesen, Ray, and a minor leaguer but it would be worth seeing Prince Fielder in an O's uniform.

If the Orioles can get a good package for Huff, they should make the move. This guy is a streak hitter who gets his numbers when he is hot and then disappears for a month and he is not usually able to come up with the clutch hit. He is horrible on the bases and make a lot of mental mistakes in the field. He is a good player, but with Snyder on his heels and Fielder available. Make the move.

I dunno if the club would deal Reimold.... why would they mess up one of the best outfields in baseball?!

Andy is going to trade Huff and promote Snyder when ready. Anyone can play first base...Wiggington can play the rest of the season there. Next year, Snyder can get the June call up when they trade Wiggington.

please stop putting mora in the 5 hole.

Thanks for the article on Gary. My daughter said she loved it. Going down in July for a week, While my new bathroom is being put in. TMI. Thanks again, DJJr.

they could have had cole hamels in the 2002 draft also, and Beau Hale was drafted one spot ahead of chase utley in 2000. No wonder the pillies are the reigning world champions.

Should not ship Reimold, Bergesen, Ray, and a minor leaguer to get Fielder. Not even close to being worth it. Reimold may win Rookie of the Year if he keeps performing like he is right now. Sign a good, young 3B next off season, if possible.

Whoever mentioned trading Reimold, Bergesen and Ray for Prince Fielder has got to be kidding, please post something that makes a fraction of sense.
