'Battle of the Birds' to take over ESPN Zone

Before the Orioles host the Washington Nationals in a three-game series this weekend at Camden Yards, the mascots of the two teams will take part in a competition at ESPN Zone.

The second annual "Battle of the Birds" begins at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, and it is tentatively scheduled to last one hour.

The Oriole Bird and Screech, the Washington Nationals' mascot, will take part in several challenges, including tug of war, arm wrestling, free-throw shooting, horse racing and more. A golden birdhouse trophy will be awarded to the winning mascot.

After the contest, both mascots will sign autographs and pose for photographs with fans.

It's not technically about the Orioles' minor league system, but I'm going to be working for The Baltimore Sun at the event and talking with fans. So, come out to the Inner Harbor and get fired up before the weekend series.

Screech, the Nationals Mascot??
Da Bird will tear that turd (Oops, sorry, I mean bird) to shreads. They should have offered Abe Lincoln instead to battle the The Bird! Old Abe didn't do so well when he visited Baltimore in early 1861......something about a riot.......
