Three Baysox players named postseason All-Stars

The Double-A Eastern League announced today that three members of the Bowie Baysox have been selected as postseason All-Stars. Starting pitcher Brad Bergesen and outfielders Lou Montanez and Nolan Reimold have been chosen to represent the Baysox on this year's list.

Bergesen began the season with Single-A Frederick where he posted a 2.08 ERA in 17.1 innings before receiving a promotion to Bowie on April 21. The 22-year-old starting pitcher won his first five decisions with the Baysox. He is 15-4 with a 3.00 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. His 15 victories are the most in the Eastern League so far in 2008. Bergesen was the starting pitcher for the Southern Division at this year's Eastern League All-Star Game and retired all three batters he faced.

Despite being promoted to the Orioles on Aug. 5, Montanez continues to lead the Eastern League in several offensive categories. If the season ended today, he would become the first player since 1976 to win the Eastern League Triple Crown. He had a .335 batting average with 26 home runs and 97 RBIs for the Baysox this season.

Reimold has played in a league-high 130 games, including tonight. Through last night's game, he was hitting .279 with 28 doubles, 19 home runs and 74 RBIs. Reimold is currently ranked second in the league in runs scored (78) and total bases (222). He is also tied for second in extra-base hits (50).

Dean
Thanks for the great job. Living in Tampa FL does not give me the opportunity to see the rising stars in person, but you blog brings them to life for me. Norfolk should be getting excited for next year. They can rid themselves of all the "not good enough for the majors" players and replace them with potential majors players.

Amen (to Ray Lynhc's post)!!!
