Paralympics special rebroadcast -- worth your time

Jessica LongNBC is replaying its 90-minute documentary on the Beijing Paralympics Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (chs. 11, 4). It's an emotional, uplifting look at some of the American athletes, including Marylanders Jessica Long and Tatyana McFadden. I highly recommend it -- especially as a respite from the police-blotter reports and legal maneuvers dominating this week's sports news. These athletes aren't bringing loaded guns into nightclubs or seeking injunctions against drug suspensions. They are simply running, swimming, sailing their hearts out -- sometimes winning, sometimes falling short but always savoring how very alive they feel when they compete.

Mike Paskoff, who has been heard weekends on 1300 AM, is moving to Fox Sports 1370 with The Insider Sports Report on Saturdays at noon to 1 p.m. starting Dec. 13.

I'm Jessica Long's pastor and I can tell you that she is a very special young lady. She was adopted from Russia as an infant and had both legs amputated before she was 2. She realizes God has given her a special ability to swim in spite of her obvious disability, and because of that, she has been an inspiration to many others who face physical challenges. She brought home four gold medals from Beijing, so I would encourage everyone to watch the action on NBC at 4:30 this Saturday.

About Ray Frager
Ray Frager joined The Baltimore Sun’s sports department in 1985 and has been an assistant sports editor for more than 15 years. This is his second stint writing a sports media column for The Baltimore Sun. Most sequels aren't as good as the original, but then, the original wasn't all that great either.

Frager, born in 1957, grew up in northern Delaware (graduating from a high school that since has shut down) and received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Rider College in Lawrenceville, N.J. He worked as a reporter and copy editor at The Trenton Times and The Dallas Morning News before coming to Baltimore.

Surprisingly, if you look at his accompanying photo, Frager is married and has a son and daughter. He enjoys playing basketball and has organized pickup games among members of The Baltimore Sun staff for many years, which means they don't get too mad at him for shooting way too much.

He has a good beat and is easy to dance to. I'd give him an 85.
