From the NFL Sunday studios

Your weekly highlights of chatter from NFL studio shows (as provided by the networks):

NFL Network guest Charles Barkley: “I love watching Ray Lewis and Ed Reed play.  They’re worth the price of admission.”

NBC's Cris Collinsworth on Sunday's Chargers-Broncos game: "Next week, these two teams will go at it and play for the division title, and probably the happiest guy on the planet is Ed Hochuli, because his call will not decide this division."

ESPN's Tom Jackson, after a feature on playing with pain: "As I look now with the artificial right hip, the artificial right knee, the pin in the right shoulder, there is a price you pay to play in the National Football League, and to play well.  But I always tell people I would not have traded a single second of what I did, or was honored to do.”

ESPN's Cris Carter on a Pro Bowl snub: “Chad Pennington, never been voted to the Pro Bowl, but definitely deserves it over Brett Favre this year.”

CBS' Shannon Sharpe on the Redskins' Jim Zorn calling himself "the worst coach in America": "Why would I disagree with him, then?  If he says he’s the worst, who could argue with him?"

Fox's Howie Long on changing coaches: “It’s late December, and the only thing that’s more harsh than the weather back East is the fact that a number of NFL head coaches are going to get a pink slip for the holidays. You can be certain that owners are looking at the quick turnarounds in Miami, Baltimore and Atlanta and saying, ‘That could be us.’ The question is: How do they do it? For one, by not listening to talk radio. There is no way fans were screaming, we need Tony Sparano, John Harbaugh, Mike Smith or Mike Tomlin a couple of years ago. Perhaps the days of the retread coach hire are dead."

About Ray Frager
Ray Frager joined The Baltimore Sun’s sports department in 1985 and has been an assistant sports editor for more than 15 years. This is his second stint writing a sports media column for The Baltimore Sun. Most sequels aren't as good as the original, but then, the original wasn't all that great either.

Frager, born in 1957, grew up in northern Delaware (graduating from a high school that since has shut down) and received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Rider College in Lawrenceville, N.J. He worked as a reporter and copy editor at The Trenton Times and The Dallas Morning News before coming to Baltimore.

Surprisingly, if you look at his accompanying photo, Frager is married and has a son and daughter. He enjoys playing basketball and has organized pickup games among members of The Baltimore Sun staff for many years, which means they don't get too mad at him for shooting way too much.

He has a good beat and is easy to dance to. I'd give him an 85.
