Deion on Ravens

For what it's worth, Deion Sanders -- speaking a little earlier today on an NFL Network conference call -- mentioned the Ravens as a team to watch out for in the playoffs.

"A team that could go on a run, a team like Indy or a team like Baltimore ... because of their defense," Sanders said in response to a question about dangerous teams in the postseason.

Don't we have to make the playoffs first?

He needs to caveat that with "If the Ravens make the playoffs." Although I am an extremely huge Ravens fan, I have been saying for over a month now that the Ravens will have an extremely tough time just making the playoffs ahead of the Pats just due to schedules. I just hope that I am wrong.

Playoffs? Playoffs? Why are we talkin' about the playoffs? The Baltimore Ravens may not make the playoffs in '08 if the offensive coordinator continues to hold back the quarterback. The coaching staff may need to trust the quarterback in these next two game to even be considered for the playoffs! Bring on Troy Smith for a couple of plays. Go Ravens!

Heh heh, ole Deion showing some love for an old team (not literally old), but he gave us some respect. I think we should silence the P word, win the last two games and then we can elaborate any P chances this year. All of a sudden, I bet the fans are thinking the D will get us there but.... What happened to our 20+ points offense? Is the Cam Man slipping and getting too set in his playcalling ways or are the players feeling an arkward December swoon? Remains to be decided in my book right now.

Deion Sanders? I have no respect for him. I'd rather hear what Shannon Sharpe has to say. He's a much more informed and professional broadcaster.

Sanders has always been an apologist for the NFL's lowest common denominators for years.

Once, just once, could that idiot refer to the end zone as the end zone and not "the house." It's a friggin' end zone, not a house. You wanna talk like that among your knucklehead street buddies, that's fine, but when you're on camera, be a professional.

Randy L, it sounds like you are a hater; if this is the case for Deion, then you will have say the same thing about other popular analyst. Another thing the network doesn't have a problem with it, that's paying him, so leave it alone and get a life. Plus, the Ravens will make the playoffs. Deion is right. We will be a dangerous team in the playoffs. For every nonbeliever, even if they didn't make it, just go back in the columns and read all the predictions people made about this team 4-12, 5-11, at the most 6-10. Go Ravens, you have already exceeded all expectations!

About Ray Frager
Ray Frager joined The Baltimore Sun’s sports department in 1985 and has been an assistant sports editor for more than 15 years. This is his second stint writing a sports media column for The Baltimore Sun. Most sequels aren't as good as the original, but then, the original wasn't all that great either.

Frager, born in 1957, grew up in northern Delaware (graduating from a high school that since has shut down) and received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Rider College in Lawrenceville, N.J. He worked as a reporter and copy editor at The Trenton Times and The Dallas Morning News before coming to Baltimore.

Surprisingly, if you look at his accompanying photo, Frager is married and has a son and daughter. He enjoys playing basketball and has organized pickup games among members of The Baltimore Sun staff for many years, which means they don't get too mad at him for shooting way too much.

He has a good beat and is easy to dance to. I'd give him an 85.
