Billick in the Supe
HBO passes along this tidbit:
Brian Billick is in Glendale, Ariz., to appear on HBO's Inside the NFL (tonight, 10). On the set along with Billick was the New York Giants' Michael Strahan, who was also a member of the Giants team that lost to Billick's Ravens in the 2001 Super Bowl. Off the air, the two had this exchange:
Strahan: "You should have let us win."
Billick: "If I had done that, I would be in the same situation I am now, only sooner."
Somehow, we think Billick was talking about being an unemployed coach, not about being on HBO.

Thinking out loud: MMMMmmmm, when the Browns moved to B'more had they brought along Mr. Hoodie, how many rings would the Ravens have to this date? And has anyone seen the artist's concept of the new stadium HD scoreboard? I heard it cost about $9 million, $3 million less than we counter-offered Bedard, right?

Who would have thought after the Ravens/Giants SB that the GIANTS would be the first team to return???
Even Billick should understand that.

HitOC -- he's a great coach, but they would have needed to bring along Tom Brady, too.

Big....I'll take a Super Bowl win in eight years vs. two Super Bowl losses, which the Giants fans are about to experience. You should understand that.

HitOC, we had Vinnie at QB, Michael Jackson at WR, an old bunch of RBs, and our defense sucked. He wouldn't have won anything here.

Now, now, I'm sure if the Ravens played in the JV conference, they would have gotten back to the Super Bowl first, too.

Yeah, Bill wasn't looking very super until Brady came along. 36-44 in Cleveland with one winning season, 5-11 in his last season when he got fired. I guess Billick is the next Belichick and the people of Baltimore will be crying when he goes on to win four Super Bowls with another team.

Let's remember something about Coach Hoodie. He was not a "Hall of Fame" coach until Brady became QB. Before then, he was losing in Cleveland, made some poor player decisions and hadn't won a SB. Insert Brady and you see where that went. He is a great coach, but great coaches win with great players. How many great players (skill position players) do the Ravens have? Let's get a QB, then we can talk about how great our soon-to-be HOF coach will be. THe future is looking bright, people -- everything is falling into place. Now, let's get through this year with the D leading the way to support Boller or Troy Smith for this year, draft Flacco in the second round and watch the playoff chase begin again!

Billick's Super Bowl win can be summed up in one phrase: "being in the right place at the right time"! Didn't take a "genius" to win with that defense! That being said, he was also the right coach for that time and place! But, over time, both the messenger and his message grew stale!
