UMBC may lose backup goalie

Annapolis native and senior goalkeeper David Coker may miss the season with a lower back injury, according to UMBC coach Don Zimmerman. But according to Zimmerman, lacrosse is secondary for Coker, who has not played since last fall.

"More importantly, he needs to regain his quality of life and that comes first and foremost," Zimmerman said after a question-and-answer session at ESPNZone in Baltimore earlier today. "I don't think he would redshirt. I think that this is it for him."

Coker, 24, is one of just four seniors on the Retrievers roster. Last season, he recorded his first career win in the team's 11-10 overtime defeat of Binghamton.
