John Carroll's Hockaday closing on home run record

For another day, at least, former Mount St. Joseph star and current New York Yankee Mark Teixeira still holds the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A-Conference record for career home runs with 29.

But John Carroll senior K.J. Hockaday is just two homers away from tying Teixeira's private school record and three from claiming it as his own.

Last week the MIAA website and then The Baltimore Sun wrote Hockaday had set the record with 27, but that information was incorrect.

Nevertheless, Hockaday had a great performance last week, hitting four home runs and pitching a complete game, giving up two hits in seven innings. "What an outstanding young man he is both on and off the field," Patriots coach Joe Stetka said.

Hammond High's Jason Maxey, who played for the Howard County school from 1998 to 2001, holds the public school and overall state record with 35.
