Offense vs. Defense times two in boys lax tonight
Two boys lacrosse games particularly stand out tonight for their intriguing matchups.
Simply put: When surging Chesapeake-AA (6-0) visits No. 10 Arundel (7-0) at 7 p.m. and South Carroll (4-0) travels to No. 14 Westminster for a 6:45 start, something has to give on both fields. Coming off a huge 5-4 win over defending Class 4A-3A state champion Severna Park on Tuesday, Chesapeake has been the area's biggest surprise. It starts with stingy defense. Led by senior goalie Mike Brennan the Cougars are permitting just 3.3 goals per game this season with other wins coming against Broadneck and Annapolis. The Cougars' defense will get its stiffest tough to date going up against a mighty Arundel attack that features Wade Korvin, T.J. Holston and Hunter Cetrone. The Wildcats have averaged a whopping 15.2 goals per game.
In Carroll County, South Carroll features one of the area's most potent one-two punches in senior Ben McCarty and Chris Frederick, while the host Owls have a sturdy defense led by four-year starting goalie Eric Natale. The visiting Cavaliers have averaged 11-plus goals in the first four wins, while the Owls have allowed a skimpy 5.1 per game.
