Lake Clifton grad Melvin earns Big East honor

Former Lake Clifton standout and current DePaul freshman Cleveland Melvin was named the Big East Rookie of the Year earlier this week.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Melvin averaged 14.3 points (17.4 in conference play). He was a unanimous selection by the league's 16 coaches.

As a senior at Lake Clifton in the 2008-09 season, Melvin averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks to earn first-team All-Metro honors and help the Lakers (29-0) capture a state title.
