Owings Mills' perfection will be challenged at Dual Championships

The wrestling community should learn something about the strength of several local teams Saturday at the the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association's state dual meet championships at Linganore High School in Ijamsville.

Owings MIlls, the fifth-ranked team, and the No. 2 seed in the 2A/1A Duals finals, is 22-0 and the only undefeated public school left in the competition. The only other undefeated team among The Sun's Top 15 is No. 1 Archbishop Spalding, which has completed its dual meet season in the MIAA with a 32-0 record.

At the MPSSAA duals, Owings Mills will first face Winters Mill, which has lost only once in 14 matches, in the semifinals that begin at 2 p.m., while No. 1-seed Glenelg, ranked No. 3 in The Sun poll with a 27-2 record, will face Rising Sun (15-5), which advanced on tie breakers after wrestling No. 13 Bel Air to a 38-38 tie at the East Regional.

No matter who wins in the opening round, the final promises a superb showdown at 5 p.m.

The 4A/3A semifinal will begin at noon, featuring teams from No. 1-seed Stephen Decatur, No. 2-seed Blake, No. 3 LaPlata and No. 4 Urbana.

The championship matches for both classes will be held at 5 p.m. on two mats.

Tickets are $6 per session for persons 7 years or older. There will be two sessions, the semifinals, after which the gym will be cleared and the finals.
