One constant in the MIAA/BCL: John Carroll

Going into this boys basketball season, anybody familiar with the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League was well aware John Carroll would strongly be in the running. But did anybody believe the No. 2 Patriots (26-1) would run away with both leagues?

While the Patriots wrapped up the regular season titles last week in both leagues -- they go into tonight's game against Calvert Hall with 10-0 marks in both -- the rest of the teams were struggling to find consistency.

On Wednesday, No. 8 McDonogh beat No. 10 Mount St. Joseph 72-63. On Thursday, John carroll handled No. 7 St. Frances a second time this season, 88-74. On Friday, Calvert Hall knocks off Mount St. Joe a second time, 47-46, while John Carroll nips McDonogh, 65-63 in overtime for its toughest area test. On Sunday, Mount St. Joe upsets St. Frances, 59-51, while Archbishop Spalding upsets McDonogh, 61-59.

For the Patriots, poised guard play from the senior backcourt of Malcolm McMillan and Ronald Scott; the versatility of guard/forward Jarred Jones; and a talented roster understanding their roles has set them apart with one week left in the regular season for opposing teams to try to find an answer. Here's a look at both leagues' standings.

IAA A Conference
1. John Carroll (26-1) 10-0
2. McDonogh(16-8) 7-4
3. St. Frances (13-5) 6-4
4. Mount St. Joseph (19-8) 5-5
5. Calvert Hall (13-13) 5-5
6. Arch. Spalding (11-14) 2-8
7. Loyola (8-15) 1-10

BCL
1. John Carroll 10-0
2. St. Frances 7-3
3. Calvert Hall 7-3
4. Mount St. Joseph 6-4
5. Arch. Spalding 3-7
6. Loyola 2-8
7. St. Maria Goretti (7-15) 0-10

its great to see john carrol having success this year and a changing of the guard in the MIAA and BCL. Coach martin has worked hard to bring in great players. I would not really credit the league being down as to why they are so successful, but i think the consistency and and the patience that they have shown as a program has finally paid off!!!!!!!
