Owings Mills' Donovan Smith narrows college list to 3
Owings Mills' All-Metro lineman Donovan Smith has narrowed his college list from seven to three and will chose among Penn State, North Carolina State and UCLA.
He plans to announce his decision after playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The senior offensive tackle, who is 6 feet 6 and 260 pounds, had whittled his list from about 20 offers to seven, but has since dropped Maryland, Michigan State, Syracuse and Connecticut.
Smith said Wednesday that he has not yet made his final decision
"All three of them have great academic support," Smith said. "Their football program is a nice football program to be in. Their coaching staff is solid. I interacted well with the players the most when I went on these trips, my official visits to these colleges. I'm a family guy and I don't want to be around a bunch of people who won't treat you like family, so that was big. And then just the fan base, being at the games, the atmosphere -- and then the academics."
Although Smith said he is aiming for the NFL, he plans to major in criminal justice, so he could fall back on a career as a detective or in forensics.

Good for Donovan! He seems like a great kid and obviously from a supportive and loving family. Hopefully, he will be a role model and an inspiration for the kids in Baltimore City.
