Forest Park's Bomar Named Raven's Coach of the Year
Forest Park football coach Damon Bomar was named the Raven's High School Coach of the Year Sunday.
In his second season as the Foresters' head coach, Bomar continued the transformation he began a year ago when he turned a 2-8 team in to a 10-1 team and the Baltimore City Division II champions. This season, the Foresters went 12-1 and repeated as Division II champs.
The Foresters shut out seven opponents and outscored the opposition, 467-76, in their 12 wins. Their only loss was to eventual state Class 1A champ Dunbar, 20-0, in the regional final.
"I can't take credit by myself," Bomar said in a news release. "I'm lucky to have a great coaching staff and a talented group of players."
Bomar received his award during the Ravens' game against the New Orleans Saints. As the 14th Ravens' Coach of the Year, he received a $4,000 donation to his school's football program.
Past winners of the Ravens' Coach of the Year honor: Poly's Augie Waibel, Eastern Tech's Nick Arminio, Edmondson's Pete Pompey, McDonogh's Dom Damico, Hereford's Steve Turnbaugh, Dundalk's Dave Eubank, South Carroll's Gene Brown, Dunbar's Ben Eaton, Westminster's Brad Wilson, Edmondson's Dante Jones, Dunbar's Lawrence Smith, Century's Tony Shermeyer and Linganore's Rick Conner.
