Basketball Santas campaign nearing $15,000 raised
Girls basketball players from John Carroll, Aberdeen, Perryville and North East raised nearly $15,000 for the Shooting Santas Foundation and they are ready to shop for their adopted families.
Earlier this month, the players raised much of the money by lining up sponsors and shooting 50 free throws each. Monday, each girl will shop for one member of one of the 15 adopted families. The gifts will be wrapped and delivered on Dec. 23.
Money was also raised at the Harford County-Baltimore County Challenge Friday and Saturday at John Carroll. In addition to the host team, Fallston, C. Milton Wright, Edgewood, Catonsville, Franklin, Milford Mill and Perry Hall participated.
The Harford County teams won the overall challenge, 7-1, with Franklin's 53-38 win over C. Milton Wright the only win for a Baltimore County team.
Since its founding 1998, the Shooting Santas Foundation, an organization headquartered through the John Carroll girls basketball program, has raised more than $54,000 to provide families with Christmas gifts they could not otherwise afford.
