Gilman's Jennings narrows his college list to six

Gilman All-Metro quarterback Darius Jennings has narrowed his college list to six schools: Ohio State, UCLA, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

The senior, who had 30 initial offers, dropped Penn State, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Connecticut from his top ten. Jennings, who will play in the Under Armour All-America Game in January, is so versatile that he was listed as an athlete. Although he could play many positions in college, he was recruited primarily as a running back or cornerback.

With his skills and a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, Jennings was rated No. 2 in the nation in the athlete category by Scout.com and No. 18 by Rivals.com. Overall, Rivals.com ranks him No. 175, which is in the top 1 percent.

Jennings, who has compiled 1,733 yards and scored 20 touchdowns for the No. 3 Greyhounds, will complete his senior year Saturday when the Greyhounds host the 95th Gilman-McDonogh game at 2:30 p.m. He has run for 1,395 yards on 148 carries and scored 17 rushing touchdowns this season. He also has completed 20 of 40 passes for 305 yards and one touchdown. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Darius - you would be a superstar at UMD and a hometown hero. See Juan Dixon. Also would be the next first round draft pick for the terps (i.e. Vernon, DHB, Madeiu Will, Lights out Shawne Merriman etc. etc.). Or you could go to a school like OSU, VT,and be just another face in the crowd.

How do you know MD is the best fit for the kid? It's amazing how terps fans try to make local kids feel obligated to attend UM. Let's not forget why the MD-Balto. pipeline was cut off for so many year.

Hey poetsgetready2roll, if you can't root for local kids going to local schools, then maybe you shouldn't be on the baltimoresum.com. Know one said it was the best choise. pv doesn't even know Darius. He just likes the TErps like most of us. So take that negativity and put it in your pie hole.

rondawg- i will post anywhere i please. I'm sure ur a MD grad, lol..learn how to spell tough guy behind your laptop!!

Darius, as a Maryland alumnus and former Gilman student, I would like to suggest you use two criteria to determine where you go: 1) best chance to win, and 2) best chance to make it to the NFL. Good luck.

Poetsready2roll--what's the matter with you? Maryland is a great place to attend, and is it so wrong to hope that a player with that talent will help Maryland improve and bring back some pride and competitiveness to your home town? Why don't you remind us of "why the Md-Balto pipeline got shut down"? Oh, that's right, b/c your former great Poets Coach, Bob Wade in basketball destroyed the program with his shady dealings and put Maryland on probation forever. How's the history lesson now? Go throw another rock in your glass house.

no it not because of Bob Wade it because maryland don't give baltimore player a fair chance to play for those of yo'll who don't it started when Ernie Graham score 44 point for maryland basketball team then lefty told Manning to give the ball to albert king first amd Bob Wade got fired for giving a player a ride to class now why was lefty fired for

Oh Mr. Thomas--Redmond CS Finney must be going crazy that your 1st and primary reason for Jennings wasn't "Go where you can get a good education!!!" (Although going to Gilman is all the education you need! ((as I am an '81 grad!)))

Mr. Brown--EG was a great player, no doubt and no argument-easily one of my favorites. However, I'd love to know where you got your info that Manning was told to pass more to King rather than Graham--seriously! Wade, as I recall, helped sabotage any of the great Poets from going to Maryland, and then when he got hired, he had a hard time bringing them anyway. Wade also did a bit more than give a kid a ride to class, hence the reason that Brian Williams left causing an NCAA investigation that crippled the Terps, (and the subsequent hiring of Gary Williams.)

Lefty got fired b/c of the fallout on Len Bias's death--and of all the unearthed benefits that the basketball players received over the years. (And how Duke and UNC stay free of investigation is beyond me, b/c all the guys I know who went there laugh at all the things they get away with!)

I agree Dairus needs to look at what schol secures his future goals. Yes my baby Buckeye chose Osu because of career choice but if Darius' goal is NFl then this needs to be part of his decision process. By the way I'm a MD alum as well. Good luck Darius. I live by Gilman so I bet you've seen my Buckeye plate. hahaha
