Forest Park's Bomar named Ravens' Coach of the Week
Forest Park coach Damon Bomar, whose team is 8-0 after Friday's 41-0 win over Southwestern, has been named Ravens' High School Coach of the Week.
Friday's shutout is the fifth for the Foresters this season -- more than any other team in the Baltimore Metro area. Having outscored the opposition 318-50, the Foresters are tied with Douglass for first place in Baltimore City's Division II.
In his second season as the Foresters' coach, Bomar has an 18-1 cumulative record, having led Forest Park to the Division II title last season. They fell to Dunbar in the Class 1A South regional championship. The year before Bomar arrived, the Foresters were 2-8.
"I changed the mental focus of the kids," Bomar said in a news release. "It's all about discipline and structure. They were talented, but just undisciplined. I brought in some great coaches and we've been grinding every day. The kids bought into it because they were eager to win."
Against Southwestern, quarterback Andrew Allen threw for three touchdowns and running back Antwon Harmon ran for two. Pat Makall returned a punt for a touchdown.
Bomar joins Hereford's Steve Turnbaugh, Gilman's Biff Poggi, the Howard High coaching staff, Atholton coach Kyle Schmitt, North Harford coach Ken Brinkman and South Carroll coach Steve Luette as Ravens' coaches of the week. One coach will be named the Ravens' High School Coach of the Year at the Dec. 19 game at M&T Bank Stadium between the Ravens and the Saints.
Each weekly winner receives a $2,000 donation for his school's football program.
